Lately I have been burying myself in mornings, falling asleep amidst the busy thrum of the rush hour— a cacophony of heels against pavements, of sleeves brushing against sleeves, umbrellas snapping open, of static waves, phones beeping and cars honking— and as the world go on with its succession after succession of generally cataclysmic events, you will find me pulling the covers over my head and drifting off even before things stagger to an almost quietness. If anything, it actually feels isolating. Whatever I have been feeling within the past few days I think is akin to depression, and I, myself, am surprised. Work has taken up so much of my time, I haven’t reached other places or seen my friends in a while, and this distantness has obviously fazed me—I’ve been ignoring emails and neglecting this blog and I sincerely apologise for that. Tonight I have stirred a hopefully remedial concoction comprised mainly of milk, leaves from Levithan’s How They Met, sprinkles of Gabrielle Aplin and Jimmy Eat World, and this: I am writing. Writing always consoles a tired soul.
