Jeongguk leaned his head back against the bark of the tree trunk, his eyes slipping shut as he enjoyed the nice cool breeze that brushed past him. Spread out on his lap and beside him were a series of books, all materials he should be studying rather than plainly ignoring. But even he couldn’t ignore the chance to enjoy the nice weather. When he had woke up this morning and found the humidity had gone down, Jeongguk knew he wouldn’t be able to resist. It was moments of total relaxation like this though that left his mind wandering, musing over time lost due to a series of unfortunate events. He began to drift off slowly and wondered if a little bit of a nap in the shade of the tree wouldn’t be such a bad thing.
Scrapped knees, dirty handprints, the sound of laughter. These are the things he associates with her, the girl he calls one of his best friends. His brother tells him they’re annoying but he says it playfully as though he can’t help but to love their antics. Jeongguk can’t help but to think that he’s secretly jealous of how much fun they have together. Every night after dinner, and while his brother is studying, he breaks down just how much fun he had playing with Luda that day and how much they had planned for the next. His brother scoffs but gently runs his hands through Jeongguk’s hair as he mindlessly turns the next page and nods along.
A loud noise in the distance took him by surprise, jerking him out of his slumber and causing him to clutch painfully at his chest. His eyes darted around wildly before he finally was able to sink back against the sturdy presence of the tree behind him. A group of students not too far from where he’s settled, glance in his direction and laugh lightly under their breath. He barely is able to resist the urge to make a face and instead plainly stares in return before turning back to his notebook.
