ONCE UPON A TIME . . . hyunsu was born into a noble family; his father is a honorable military official in the kingdom of clovers, and his mother is a well-renowned seamstress who owns her own tailor shop in between the three kingdoms. being the eldest child of his family, hyunsu always carried the burden of being a good example for his siblings and honoring his family name.
from a young age he studied hard to even have a chance at being a royal. this was partially due to his parents ( more specifically his father ) pushing him to be the best he could be, and partially due to the fact that he wanted praise from his parents. of course, all his hard work paid off, and hyunsu was able to become as a royal at the age of sixteen.
IN THE KINGDOM OF . . . clovers, hyunsu quickly began his training in hopes to become a prince. at the time, he fell in love with one of his competitors, lee seonwoo. the two often met in secret, as they did not want to ruin their chances at becoming princes. they never had an established relationship, yet the feelings were real, especially to hyunsu. and when the two became princes, things quickly began to change.
THERE WAS SOMETHING IN THE AIR . . . but it wasn’t love. lee seonwoo became a second-tier prince, loved and cherished by everyone around him, while hyunsu remained in the shadows of his own lover as a third-tier prince. it did not help that hyunsu found himself alone, as the person he used to spend most of his time with had now left him in the dust. nothing compared to the pain and jealousy hyunsu had felt, and even now he still is left feeling angered by his past.
SO HE BID ADIEU TO THE BELOVED PRINCE . . .( tw: murder ) and after a lot of thought, hyunsu decided the best way to move on and live his best life was to murder his lover via poisoning. no one knows he did it, not even those closest to him. it is a secret hyunsu will carry for the rest of his life, a burden that is a weight on his shoulders. yet now, despite being shackled up by his own sins, hyunsu lives freely as a second-tier prince.
personality.
although he is haunted by his own past, hyunsu has a pretty bold personality. resilient, open-minded, and flexible are a few words that could describe the prince, though he is also cunning, impulsive, and vain. he means well, but often times finds himself butting heads with a lot of people.
most of his time was spent learning the politics and society of the kingdom of clovers, so it’s a not a shocker that hyunsu tends to be slightly misogynistic ( boo, let women be women! ). this can be viewed more in his page about his values, but for now let’s just say he does not vibe with the queen-- even if he sucks up to her.
if you are his friend, he will spend every day supporting and loving you. if you are his enemy, he will spend every day pushing your buttons until you surrender.

born from a family of nobles ( old money, somewhat reputable ) he is the youngest of two children.
when he was younger, he didn’t quite understand why some families/titles were considered better than others because he always assumed he’d simply grow into the title of prince one day. however, the first to pop his bubble was his parents when he learned they were simply nobles and he’d have to work for his title.
he was kind of a shy kid because he had a learning disability that made him feel stupid, more inferior to others. but his competitive side came out sooner rather than later and he learned how to cope with it to become top of his class.
sunwoo has kind of learned the best way to cope is to ignore all fault and failure and pretend he is hopelessly perfect. ( though he’d say he’s not pretending. )
he and his sister have made a bet to see who will be the first of them to win the crown in their respective kingdoms. ( not even questioning that neither or only one of them will. ) but it’s a friendly bet, more so a promise to be better than what their parents have made for them. i mean what’s the point of being royal if you’re not going to be king/queen!!
but unlike his sister, he’s pretty ruthless up to a point and actually really, really wants to be king of clovers.
on the outside, he’s just kind of the mysterious brooding type, internally he’s judging everyone and perpetually annoyed with the existence of others.
other than his dyslexia, his sexuality is a big secret of his and one that he hasn’t really admitted to himself, let alone anyone else. he kind of views it as a bad thing so all of his romantic relationships are superficial and one-sided.
he does care, he’s not a total sociopath, but he will do anything to advance in his reputation/title, which means betrayal and sabotage, even his sister, though he assumes she knows all is fair in love and war. love u sister. </3

ONCE UPON A TIME … yanyu had a normal life. she lived with her father in hong kong for the majority of her childhood, and only saw her mother on occasional visits to the kingdom of spades. her father owned his own bakery in hong kong, and her mother was a diplomat in the kingdom of spades who specialized in foreign affairs.
it wasn’t the best life. she didn’t own a polished pair of heels or a plethora of silk dresses. her life was full of street markets, worn down pavement, and cramped apartment that she called home, though, yanyu wouldn’t have had it any other way.
IN THE KINGDOM OF … ( tw: mentions of death ) spades, yanyu didn’t want to leave her home, but she wasn’t going to disobey her own mother-- especially when her own mother was ill. what she wasn’t prepared for, however, was the chance to compete for the throne. it wasn’t yanyu’s decision to go, it was her mother’s. seeing her own daughter go to live a better life was the last memory her mother wished to have, and so she left.
years later after her mother’s passing, yanyu was met with another challenge. her father’s trial.
THE SWEET PRINCESS FELL TO HER KNEES … pleading for the queen to show mercy. her father could never betray the kingdom, right? after he raised such a gentle, loyal soul, how could he? there was no evidence against him-- just the whispers and disgusted looks of the palace residents. yet still, she kneeled there in tears as her father was carried away. and what was the price she paid for speaking out? being denoted from a second-tier princess to a third-tier princess.
SHE COULDN’T LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER …( tw: mentions of death ) not after her father’s trial, and definitely not after the murder of her own friend. she wanted justice, not revenge, which is why she decided to remain a princess-- no matter what tier she was. the only way to honor the fallen and release her father from his wrongful shackles was to earn the crown herself.
personality.
good-natured, sociable, enthusiastic, and curious are a few words that could describe the princess, though she is also a people-pleaser, sensitive, and stubborn. it’s hard not to get along with the princess unless you cross her or her family/friends.
yanyu is quite the ambivert. she has an introverted persona, and frequently claims she has a low social battery. however, she is quite the secret wild child. when she doesn’t have her head stuck in a book, she is snooping around with a friend living her best life. though she doesn’t like to show this side much, as her father’s image ( and partially her own ) in the palace is already tarnished.
yanyu is a hopeless romantic. often times hookups become potential love interests in her mind, though she tries not to get too attached. a serial dater, if you will.

- born to the noble song family in spades kingdom on 03/19/1998
- has an older sister by two years who passed the selection process, but left soon after when she got engaged to a noble outside of the palace
- expectation was that sooin would follow in her steps and rise up to compete as well
- sooin was fully prepared, always wanted to become a princess her whole life, and knew she would be able to because she studied alongside her sister
- not long after she turns fifteen and is eligible to go through the selection process, her parents tell her that they've found a potential prince in the palace who she will get engaged to
- this is the turning point for sooin because she knows the one thing she wants to be able to do for herself is find her own love (courtesy of having a very big crush that moved away before it could become anything)
- she knows that the only way for her to get out of the engagement is if she doesn't become a princess because it's nothing more than a political marriage and she wouldn't have an actual reason to get out of it once entering the palace
- so, on the day that she's supposed to go to the palace for the selection process, she goes to the knight's selection process instead!
- she passes and is selected to become a knight-in-training and it obviously upsets her parents
- the only reason why they still have faith in her and pride is because her sister's husband knows the grand officer who praises sooin's uniqueness in having trained knowledge of the noble lifestyle (that would help her serve royals better)
- she quickly rises through the ranks because of her prior experience with noble lifestyles and hard work
- once she catches the interest of the king because of the political jobs she also completes on the side (that are above her pay grade), she asks for a promotion and is granted the title of an elite knight
- from then on, she primarily serves the king (and happily so based on the rumors she's heard of the queen being kind of ruthless)
- although she's an elite knight, the jobs she does for the king are usually very low-key and have her go undercover
- she spends a lot of time in town monitoring and observing nobles and their moves to gather intel for the king
- because of that, a lot of the citizens think she's a second rank knight but also that she's kind of lazy because she's never doing any actual second rank knight work
- (along with her fellow knights) others who have witnessed her actually working or from observing her can tell that she has to be a higher rank than a second rank knight
- there are also rumors that she will do extra jobs for anyone (noble or not) for money. this is true. lol
- the jobs can get pretty intense or just be simple low-key jobs, however, the only people she has killed have been under the direct orders of the king

she’s the twin of, the rose, who everyone loves but nobody really loves eunae lol
despite growing up hearing all these whispers and gossip about herself, she just throws herself into studying about her kingdom and other royal duties......all that jazz
basically she wants to be the perfect princess and more AND EVENTUALLY the perfect queen for her kingdom bc at the end of the day she genuinely loves the kingdom of hearts and wants to rule over to be the greatest she can be for her citizens bc it’s what they deserve
ofc this does not come across to the people at all bc of her demeanor (she’s a real stickler for rules and protocol so everyone just thinks she has a stick up her ass sdfjsfd) and she’s just so busy studying all the time and dealing with princess stuff that she hardly ever steps foot outside of the palace (except to visit other kingdoms on official duty)
to sum her up, she basically has this inferiority complex since all her life everyone has just compared her to her sister despite how hard she’s tried but she naively believes that eventually all her hardwork will eventually pay off and she will be noticed and redeemed!!
but yeah if youre gonna take away anything from this she just wants to be perfect so bad
also unlike me she is quite the prodigy and genius and has taught herself to be fluent in several languages as well as war strategies and has mastered the sword at a decently young age despite it being “unladylike”
her sword skills are something i she considers her greatest asset, but doesnt boast about it vocally (she believes actions speak louder than words if u understand what i’m implying wink wink. if u dont basically she challenges you to a duel/spar to show you just how good she is)

she’s was born on july 12, 1997 as the daughter of the king and queen of hearts and the fraternal twin sister to the thorn
she’s spent much of her life cultivating this positive image of herself by studying hard, interacting with anyone and everyone, and even volunteering around the kingdom
thus, everyone in the kingdom absolutely adores her, but they hate her sister
it’s kind of funny because they hate her sister for being power-hungry and cruel, which she isn’t. that’s actually what jiae is, beneath the act of a benevolent and loving princess
the rumours started when they were younger and jiae kind of took advantage of that to better her reputation
because honestly, she hates the kingdom of hearts as it is right now. she hates how weak the people are (she wishes they could be more like the kingdom of clovers) (she used to love sneaking out and visiting them)
she’ll do anything to become the next queen because she craves the power and control, and so that she can mold the kingdom the way she wants to
by anything, i don’t really mean anything. she’ll smile to people’s faces and then spread rumours behind their back. she’ll mess with their things so that they end up late or look like they’ve “lost” something important. but she won’t kill someone for her cause because it’s more fun to watch people suffer mentally
maybe one day she’ll actually care about people’s feelings. who knows. it wont be any time soon
anyways she’s fake as hell so if you want to spice up your character’s life with drama, hit me up
