The Two Faces of CY-GOR!!!!!
Alrighty, I think I’ve mentioned a time or two on this blog that I am not a Spawn fan.
However, I am a fan of gorillas. Especially cyborg gorillas. Especially especially cyborg gorillas who are made into action figures!
So of course I bought this Cy-Gor figure when it was first released, Spawn-fan or not!
Like many McFarlane Toys action figures of the time (this guy was released in 1996), Cy-Gor is not very well articulated. His arms swivel at the shoulders, his hands swivel at the wrists, his legs (barely) swivel at the hips, and you can turn his head a smidge.
As much as I want articulation in my action figures (otherwise they’re just statues), this figure overcomes that deficiency with pure gorilla awesomeness!
Then, two years later, McFarlane Toys gave us this guy:
Officially billed as “Cy-Gor 2,” this mega-monkey is about 50% taller than the first.
This time out, the folks at McFarlane Toys improved his articulation a bit by giving him ball joints in the shoulders, so his arms can swing out. Still no articulation in the elbows and knees, though.
Cy-Gor 2 also has a neat gimmick: his torso opens to reveal a “cyber chimp” stored inside!
My cyber chimp seems to have escaped (I hope he’s at the bottom of the box somewhere), which is why I did not take a photo of the figure with the torso open.
Cy-Gor 2 is draped in some spiffy real metal chains, which was a common accessory for many McFarlane Toys figures. The trick is to make sure they don’t snarl or get snagged on anything.
Once I get these guys home I’m gonna have them battle it out with my King Kong figures! Total money madness!
