Finally watched the 009 v devilman crossover so here are my brief thoughts:

I enjoyed this way more than I expected but the Devilman side got shafted hard LOL. On one hand, I’m glad it wasn’t 009, I’m glad every character got a moment to shrine from that side, and Akira still got his cool fights so it worked out, but on the OTHER HAND there was no real devilman villain focus to give this crossover the connective tissue besides the demon that possesses the one new cyborg knew Amon but that was pretty vague, the other Devilman villains got handle with fast so it was just 009 villains getting the most. Oh and as “guy who read Devilman but I watched the 2000s cyborg 009 anime instead of reading the manga” I have no idea if these new cyborgs in the ova were characters from the manga that the anime couldn’t use or made up for this ova, the one getting possessed by the demon definitely was, and afaik all the new demons were new, but if they are OCs then this feels like a random scrapped arc from the 2000s anime yet Devilman there LOL.

Also Miki getting shafted even if wow no fanservice sucked, Ryo got to be cool but didn’t do much at the end anddd the fact they end it with the series leading to their endings leads more to be desire because holy fuck now I wish to see the 009 cast watch the world ends as if their ending wasn’t enough suffering. Besides that though fun crossover! Animation was fucking fantastic, it makes me sad no 009 or Devilman anime will look like this nowadays cause it was the perfect modern art style for both imo, more sad on the 009 side though admittedly. Fight scenes were obviously hype, glad they didn’t hold back AT ALL with the gore too, and while the story wasn’t anything deep I still did like the sub plot with the new villains- I feel bad for Eva and it’s so noteworthy she didn’t die, so I wish we got to see what she was doing after losing everyone else or maybe she tries to join the current team, but her storyline was actually well executed despite the 3 ep length! Glad to see some substance here even if this ova still mainly appealing for hype and aura.

Though Idk if I recommend this to someone who hasn’t seen either, the beginning definitely suffered from media in res super bad icl, but if you know one of the series you’ll still find fun out of this, even if again 009 got more and I enjoyed this WAY more knowing both. Still probably one of my new favorite crossovers! Glad it was more fun than I expected.
