“Yes. I know. I love him.” Cyche said absently. She grabbed Tave's right hand in her left and said, “If you die on me, Tave, I'm going to go to the afterlife and drag you back here!” Mirinah and Kariah glanced from Tave to Cyche and put the obvious together.

Cyche has a duo-matrix. One part is healing, and the other part is time.

Kira [Echoings] gets stuck in a time-loop. She doesn't age, she just exists in a very sleep-like state  in this bubble floating through space. Cyche can communicate with Kira while Cyche is asleep, because of Cyche's time Matrix.

The culture

The culture at large thinks that the sun is a myth.  They also think the idea of a dog is ridiculous. 

Aside from drafts (natural wind when there’s a large place), they don’t really have a concept of weather. 

Remember that they all live underground. Temperatures fluctuate often, but usually it’s cold. Girls don’t shave their legs because it helps keep them warm.

Cyche is the oddball in this area. She thinks leg hair is gross.

Tave

Tave just doesn't care. He cares about Cyche and Caili and Ramien but no one else. The first time he hears music is when Kondra, Tanu's daughter, is singing while she does laundry.

Most are scared of Tave's abilities and the reputation he’s already gathering. Some have superstitions about people with a Dark Matrix, most of which are false. Which is not to say that someone with a Dark Matrix isn't dangerous.

Aside from Kondra, Cyche, Tanu, Aidero, Caili, Evelyn, and Jako, the rest of the people avoid Tave.

is a healer, by nature and by ability. She's far more timid than Mirinah and she doesn't think she could be as strong as her.
