Cycle 2
My call-out order for the second cycle, including individual call-out averages for each model.
2. Mercedes
My call-out average: 3.2
Panel call-out average: 2.9
Mercedes was honestly my favorite when it came to personality. She was such a fun, energetic person and I admired how strong she was with having to deal with lupus while competing. I always thought she was genuine in her interactions with the other girls too. Mercedes was a great commercial model and was still able to produce some high fashion shots as well. While she had one or two mediocre weeks, she always bounced back with something great. Finally, she was probably the best runway walker of the season (along with Camille). She dominated Yoanna on the final runway. That performance combined with her strong portfolio and proving to the judges that she could be edgy in her final beauty shot convinced me that she would win, so I was mildly surprised when her name didn’t come up on the screen.
3. Yoanna
My call-out average: 3.5
Panel call-out average: 3.3
Yoanna’s face is undeniably amazing and unique. Yoanna was also extremely consistent: other than her god awful music video performance, she never had a bad week. She really shined in the final three weeks of the competition, which was the right time to peak since before that point her photos were strong but not super memorable. Her walk was a mess at first, but she improved and had a passable performance on the final runway. Her win was fine with me, but I thought that the two girls ranked above her would’ve been better ANTM champs. In terms of personality I really couldn’t stand Yoanna, especially before the overseas portion of the competition. She came across as super fake and condescending. I feel like she hated Camille for no real reason at first and was honestly the rude one in their interactions. Not to mention their super cringe-y fake friendship later in the cycle (every time she said “Ebony and Ivory” I wanted to vomit). She became much more likeable in Milan, probably because I was finally on her side against Camille by then after the eating disorder lie drama.
4. Shandi
My call-out average: 3.7
Panel call-out average: 3.3
Honestly Cycle 2 has one of the strongest final fours in the show’s history and I wouldn’t have been surprised or upset by a win from any of them. Shandi was so high fashion and she had one of the biggest transformations ever on the show. She went from looking so plain and awkward to looking like a true model. She was a weak walker, but I have to admit that she improved a lot by the end of the cycle. While she had some truly amazing shots, she had a few duds as well, and her lack of consistency keeps her out of my Top 3. However, I wasn’t against Shandi being in the finale whatsoever.
5. Sara
My call-out average: 4.14
Panel call-out average: 4.86
Sara was incredibly beautiful and did consistently well throughout the competition. While she never had a true “wow” moment, I thought that nearly all of her pictures were pretty strong. Her skills were a bit one-dimensional and while her look was excellent for swimwear/athletic modeling, I was never convinced she could’ve been great at high fashion. I never quite understood her elimination, since she excelled in the music video and her body work was really good. However, she probably would’ve only lasted another week at best, since she wasn’t quite at the level of the girls I have ranked above her.
6. Catie
My call-out average: 5.33
Panel call-out average: 5.67
Catie was so immature and the constant crying really got on my nerves. I thought she had an interesting face and quite a bit of potential (plus I loved her makeover). She was definitely a coaster. Other than her weak celebrity impersonation shot, her photos were consistently decent, never awful and never amazing. Finishing 7th was totally fine with me, I only have her ranked a spot higher because I thought her portfolio was slightly better than Camille’s.
7. Camille
My call-out average: 5.75
Panel call-out average: 4.75
Camille had a couple of strong shots here and there, but her body of work was pretty underwhelming. She didn’t take direction well which didn’t allow her to improve as the competition went on. I have to give her credit for her runway walk, which was pretty fierce. When it came to Camille as a person, I never thought she was that bad. She gave us a lot of entertaining moments, particularly her performance in the acting challenge. Sure, she was annoying at times and arrogant, but I thought that Yoanna always blew things out of proportion. The only time Camille acted really questionably was when she implied (in front of Tyra) that Yoanna had an eating disorder. In that situation, Yoanna’s anger was completely justified.
8. Jenascia
My call-out average: 5.5
Panel call-out average: 9
Jenascia’s portfolio was actually pretty good and underrated by the judges. However, she wasn’t always the best at making herself look tall in her photos, and she didn’t look like a model in person to me. I think she had potential to last a couple more weeks, but her elimination wasn’t a major shock or anything. Jenascia always had kind of a stank attitude, but still came across as endearing to me and I loved her sarcasm.
