Host John Daly opens this broadcast of What’s My Line? (3/18/1956) with sad news: Panelist Fred Allen died the previous night. The show will go on as usual because Fred’s widow believes he would’ve wanted it that way. After this somber start, Dorothy Kilgallen, Steve Allen (taking Fred’s seat), Arlene Francis, and Bennett Cerf try to guess the jobs of Mr. Jacques Plante, Mrs. Jules Lederer* (pictured), and Miss Toshiko Akiyoshi. The mystery guest is Cyd Charisse, and the episode comes with the original commercials.

* - You may know Mrs. Lederer better by her pen name “Ann Landers.” At the time, she had been writing the advice column, started in 1943 by Ruth Crowley, for five months. This was her first TV appearance.
