What do you think of the new casting for HSM? I actually have mixed feelings about it. On one hand, I want to give the new cast a chance and see how it plays out. On the other hand, I think Disney should just leave HSM alone and come up with new ideas. Plus, I thought EW kind of did Zac Efron dirty with that headline. (Move over Zac Efron, High School Musical has cast its lead! SMDH!)

I’ve always been firmly against any more spin-offs and sequels after SFA (and even with SFA, I was initially wary, but I think it ultimately worked out, because it still had sufficient ties to the trilogy and Sharpay’s story didn’t feel finished yet in HSM3), and tbh, this series thing is the worst sequel/spin-off idea they’ve come up with yet, because it makes no sense? Is it set in the HSM universe or not? And if it is, how is HSM a stage musical in its own universe? It’s a meta clusterf*ck and I don’t get it.

But, that being said, I can’t really blame the cast. I mean, the actor that was cast is 17. He’s a kid. And he probably grew up with HSM the same way we did, and I can’t blame him for being excited about getting this opportunity. The problem is, and always has been, Disney trying to make more money off HSM while it’s over and done with. No sequel or spin-off they’re ever going to produce is going to match the success of the original trilogy, and it will only mess with the legacy. There’s more than enough franchises that are popular right now that they could focus on instead, and I’m sure there’s many new ideas that they could work with, too.

So, yeah, I don’t want to be nasty to the new cast, because I don’t think it’s their fault, but I just... don’t have much faith.

Also, headlines like the EW one are just used to create interest (I think clickbait is too big a word in this specific case, though), and they obviously needed Zac’s name to do that, so can’t really be that mad about that, lol.

So, I just watched a recent interview of Dove on the Build Series from a few weeks ago. And she said that Disney hasn't given the cast their scripts yet because the writers were still working on the plot(or something like that). Do you think that there could be some hope on D3 being better than D2 since Disney seems to be taking their good time on this?

i genuinely don’t trust disney anymore, not after they robbed me of explicitly canon rilaya, i will probably never trust disney again unless they give me explicitly canon malvie

be that as it may, its good to know that they’re actually spending a good amount of time on this rather than just hammering it out, maybe they saw all the bad reviews lmao, all things considered though i want to be on that writing team i think i could do wonders

So I just read your post about your thoughts on D2 and D3, and I couldn't agree more on what you said. Do you think Disney is planning to give Mal a better storyline and character development in D3 since they pretty much butchered her storyline in D2? I'm honestly not holding any high hopes on Mal and Ben breaking up, because I get the feeling that Disney is planning to keep them together. I do hope that we get some Malvie scenes though.

tbh i don’t know if disney is going to write mal a better storyline in the third movie, i mean im hoping they actually give her some form of development this time rather than just moving her backward, and yeah honestly the ben/mal thing is probably still gonna go on no matter how much i hope but i stand by my point that mal will not fully step into herself unless she breaks up with him
