James McAvoy's portrayal of Cyrano in Jamie Lloyd's Cyrano De Bergerac is quite simply one of the best pieces of theatre I have ever seen. And there has been A LOT of theatre.

I have never read the play before but I grew up loving Steve Martin's version of Cyrano in 'Roxanne'. The story of someone falling in love with someone else's words speaks to the writer trapped in their own truth. This version is most certainly a departure from the original text but I cannot think of a more perfect adaptation than the lyrically bombastic and linguistically astounding spectacle I saw.

I was blown away from the moment it started. James McAvoy has always been an actor whose performance I knew I could trust, but I have no doubt that this is his masterpiece.

I am so glad I bought this ticket.
