Juliet managed to outrun the cat-sized monsters. For some reason, they were more frightening than their taller, bigger siblings from the eighth sector, only because they were actively chasing her, as they have all day. Still, they lost her track, so Juliet had an entire minute to catch her breath, not even concerned about other tributes anymore. After bumping into the boy from District One, possibly one of the most promising murderers in the arena, everything seemed lighter.
At the sight of Marino, she ran towards her even breathless, despite their conversation ending on an odd note, one that hinted towards how he could swear he wouldn’t kill her in a million years, but it didn’t grant anything once they got inside the arena. Juliet wasn’t so skeptical now. “I’m guessing you don’t have a spare slurpee...” she shouted as she was walking his way.

She never saw danger from this close. She knew who he was -- one of the kids from the better districts, who made a show out of himself during their training, who probably killed a bunch of kids already. The blood in her veins ran cold, even though she was sweating from every inch of skin. She had long ago taken off her boots, leaving them somewhere safe, hidden behind trees in the dry forest, if she ever needed them again. Her hoodie had its sleeves now tied behind her neck, making a thick and ugly shirt out of it. It was better than dying from overheating.
But she looked at him trying to hide horror. She didn’t want to die with a scared look on her face, even if she had to die. “Are you lost too?” she inquired, and only after calming down did she notice the wounds on Onyx’s body.
