Mila x Riley

Muscle twitches, half-exposed in the thick morning light. Mila watches it, ears flicking.

Riley is a curious creature, tall-long, marked with sigils Mila cannot begin to understand, but in the morning hours Mila can see the nervous lines leave Riley's face. She can watch the way breath catches.

The cross that covers Riley's back is brutal in its efficiency; carved there by whatever saviors took Riley from the birth-hive and enchanted to hold a weapon that oozes the sort of faith which makes the dead turn to ash.

It is also, Mila knows, a source of pain.

She isn't thinking when she leans to kiss the red-drawn flesh. She's only thinking to soothe what pain spasms beneath the skin.

This is one of Riley's main themes and part of that is entirely because she's a Baali revenant (D'habi and all that), but in the work she does she is actively fighting off demons, as she was rescued by the Moloch Baali. So its like a funny bit.

There's the juxtaposition of like, her killing devils and Baali for the True Black Hand against her with the other revenants, and understanding what love is. Riley has some major issues, but like........... The Others Are Kind To Her.

Took her years to stop expecting Perry to hit her instead of hug her but she's made it.
