I wanted Jurassic World Rebirth to go harder with the Distortus Rex. So I traced the OG design and added some extra bits. I really think a more deformed and asymmetrical design would have further illustrated the idea that humans will happily create monstrosities for the right price.

The movie briefly touches on euthanasia being a more humane option for the animals created on Research Site C so I wanted my D-Rex to look as if she is suffering. Her distended head sack would pulsate with each rattling breath and she constantly drools because her mouth can't close properly. She has a well-developed sense of smell; it's her primary way of navigating the world. She has multiple teratomas/growths on her body, with quills/teeth poking up in random patches on her skin. She has gone through several surgeries to repair tissue that failed to form, so she would have evidence of skin grafts and healed incisions. She only has one eye and is extremely sensitive to light. Her thin skin offers next to no protection from the sun, meaning she is exclusively nocturnal.

The story for my D-Rex design is that she was trained with red lights to signal when it was time for her pain meds to be administered. So her approaching red/lights flares in the movie is her seeking relief for her pain, and she lashes out with frustration when there is none.

I want her to feel like a horrifically powerful toddler that is scared/confused on why she was abandoned. She has a natural curiosity to her but her behavior is erratic because, I mean, of course it would be. Birds are very emotionally complex animals and I imagine dinosaur creatures would be too.

A few more things about her:

- Her corporate sponsor is one of the world's largest chicken processors so she actually has a lot of actual chicken DNA in her.

- Her abdominal wall was prone to rupture so she has synthetic, see-through skin holding her organs in.

- Primarily a scavenger/nest raider

i really hope the D-Rex survives the movie and gets a beautiful story arc. it feels like every Jurassic World introduces a cool apex predator only to give Blue and Rexy something to persevere against. But the D-Rex maybe has already suffered enough and deserves to live out its days doing whatever it does and not just get called ugly a bunch. it’s cool, it’s unique, i want to see it move, and i want to see it happy at the end!
