Some Mario Food Headcanons
Mario, despite what you might expect, is not a good chef at all. In fact, Luigi does most of the cooking around the house. You’d think “oh Mario would have high standards for Italian foods” and you’d be mistaken, this man will eat just about any Italian food without hesitation. His bro makes the best, but when Mario is alone and making his own food? He prefers to simply make some spaghetti-os and is perfectly happy with them! Frozen pizza, canned ravioli, pepperoni hotpockets, this man likes his food and isn’t all that picky, except for one thing...
Strangely, Mario DOES have some texture problems when it comes to food. (This is totally not me projecting) This is the primary reason he doesn't like Mushrooms, at least initially.
Mario does come around on eating Mushrooms, less because he likes them and more because he just got used to them out of necessity.
On the topic of Super Mushrooms, the sheer number of them Mario ate during his training montage in the movie is the reason why Mario's jumping prowess improved so significantly by the midpoint of the film, as well as why he's so sturdy. (Though he was pretty darn sturdy to begin with too.)
Luigi, on the other hand, loves mushrooms and willingly eats Super Mushrooms regularly, so that's why he's able to jump higher and such by the end of the movie.
This also would explain why Luigi is able to jump higher than Mario, but is nowhere near as skilled at it, because Luigi didn't go through the training Mario did.
(Also unrelated headcanon, but when Luigi grabbed the Super Star with Mario at the end of the movie, this healed his "bad knees" just as Mario's wounds were healed.)
Luigi has much higher standards for food, especially Italian food. Lu particularly likes Mama Mario's food. His tastes juxtapose Mario's. Pickier with what he eats, but not because of the texture of the food but the flavor. He CAN eat Mario's tv dinners but he won't shut up critiquing it while he does.
