It's always comparing Lucanis to Anders and never comparing him to Wynne. Sigh. Y'all have no imagination.

Watching edits n I do have to say I always love nearly any Hawke edit, tho ppl say "Maybe This Time" is like, HER song/edit theme n honestly the vibes? YESSSS. But the portrayal of Hawke as a failure in the public's eyes isn't really accurate in my opinion!!
So the clip people use says, "Everybody loves a winner / so nobody loved me", but I think that's inaccurate? Hawke was absolutely a winner !!!!! To the public's eyes she was an immigrant who started from the bottom and pulled herself up by her bootstraps, reclaimed her mother's noble name and singlehandedly defeated the invading Qunari. She was named Champion of Kirkwall and all the nobles cheer and clap!! At the beginning of Act 3, the nobles gathered in Hightown practically BEG Hawke to become the new Viscount. She absolutely is a winner and she is absolutely loved by the public.
What's also important here is that her story is told in "The Tale of the Champion", written by Varric and leans into extravagant lies. So people outside of Kirkwall have a different perception on each exact step she took, however the general idea that she's a "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" hero of the commonfolk is still the prevalent idea.
Now, after the Kirkwall Incident, the inner Chantry does see Hawke as an insurrectionist who planned everything leading up to the Kirkwall Incident years in advance. But that is a conspiracy theory on their part, and mostly exists within the Chantry.
The Divine herself sends her Left and Right Hands to recruit Hawke as the future Inquistor because Hawke is the one person they believe both templar and mage would listen to. Hawke has a massive influence to the point she can't travel openly without being recognized !!!!
Now, I think the reason people use this audio with her is, like I said earlier... omg the vibes are so perfect for her.... the singing, the instrumentals, it screams jaded joker !!!! Also, the lines, "Lady Peaceful / Lady Happy... / That's who I long to be!" DO suit her incredibly well. The yearning for something simple and not having to fight all the time, to have something and it actually stay for once, that's so her, bless 😭 BUT most importantly while Hawke seems so powerful and perfect to an outside eye, she herself feels like she's a failure. Because for her, family was always the priority and she loses each of them one by one in incredibly cruel ways. Every inch she gains, the world takes a mile. She DOES reclaim her mother's noble estate, but she only WANTED that estate in order for her family to live somewhere SAFE. She ends up living in it alone because her whole family is gone. The victory is hollow. She has a loyal butler, and eventually it's time for him to move on too. (Tho she has her maid Orana if you're based)
Needless to say, I think the lyrics match what Hawke thinks of herself: a failure who brings trouble to anyone who cares about her. But I think she's self aware enough to know the public loves her, despite not seeing herself as a "winner". Damn near everybody ends up loving her, parasocially mostly but nevertheless. Anyway I think her being a winner to the public and a failure to herself is such a poignant part of her character 🥺🥺
