first of all, i’m still howling every time hawke wraps a conversation with the gallows knight-captain, my darling dearest blonde sinner

because he still hasn’t shut up about ferelden

but….. do i sense a shred of self-awareness? buried deep in act iii of the best dragon age game? from cullen??

“After Ferelden, I told myself I would never again question the Order’s purpose. But now it seems hard to tell whether I serve the Order or merely the Knight-Commander. Perhaps they are no longer one and the same.”

….hawke’s just standing there (with his apostate lover) like. NAWWWWWW REALLY??????

but man. i’m proud of my boy cullen. he really did start openly expressing criticism of meredith well before endgame. and it’s honestly goddamned brave. reckless, too - but genuinely courageous, if you consider the circumstances. more below the cut

i say it’s courageous because cullen is discussing this with hawke (and the captain of the guard???) in the Gallows courtyard???? proximate to at least three other templars, and in front of any narc who might go running to Meredith to bray about treason in the ranks???

and it’s not like every templar is turning on meredith. cullen has to know she still has plenty of lackeys and lickspittles and mage-haters. and picture if someone like Alrik told meredith “your knight captain is openly questioning your orders in front of the champion of kirkwall”

…act three sees meredith hanging traitorous templars from the walls of the gallows and leaving their bodies on display. and you have to remember, cullen is the knight-captain she personally imported from ferelden and raised up to be her successor - and he’s siding with hawke on matters of mage freedom? i think meredith would go ballistic. and would be appointing a new knight-captain within the day. clearly, she did not find out about this conversation.

so say what you want but cullen rutherford clearly has balls of stainless steel. (or: he a lil confused but he got the spirit.) how do people hate this character
