TRIA Company outing at Dabob Bay

First of all, I was gonna write this last night, but I had to do a last minute project for Rainer instead.  He left this morning for his interview at GSK in NC.  While packing last night he was trying on his interview outfit.  He found this vest that we had bought a while ago on sale.  It was too fat for him and I told him I thought I might be able to sew it to fit him.  So that’s what I ended up doing last night instead.  At least he’s gonna look really spiffy!

OK, and now for the trip to Dabob Bay:

Chris, our president, owns some beachfront property on Dabob Bay.  He invited the employees of TRIA and a few friends (select IDC employees) to come for the weekend as a potluck camping beach trip.  The bay is on the other side of Puget Sound from Seattle, so we had to take the ferry across to get there.  (It’s the same ferry you have to take to get to Forks.) It was a blast.  Rainer and I borrowed a tent from Richard and stayed Saturday night.  The activities included laying in the sand, swimming (the water was just about the perfect temperature), going out on a row boat or kayak, trying to make sand castles (the sand wasn’t that great), sitting around the fire and drinking vampire juice which was the yummy drink I brought to share.  Chris put out a crab bucket and caught two crabs which we cooked for dinner.  The sunset was amazing (Rainer took lots of pictures of that for you.)  There was a forest fire west of us so all the smoke in the air made it really red.  You can see the smoke plume in the pictures.  Olivia, Scott’s daughter, attached herself to me for pretty much the whole day.  We made sand castles, went swimming, played hide and seek, went for a jog down the beach and relaxed in the sand for a picture.

Rainer and I also had our first team attempt at pitching a tent.  It was a bit ambitious since it was a six person tent that Richard brought for us to use.  We were in the middle of it when Chris came over and helped us.  It was a good thing too because he told us the very important trick of sticking the small metal peg into the rod to attach it to the bottom of the tent.  We would have had a really hard time without that good advice.  You can see the finished product in one of the pictures. 

When it got dark out we sat around the fire and looked at the stars.  Chris said that he had seen the Northern Lights the night before, so we were hoping to see them again that night.  I’ve never seen them.  Unfortunately they did not grace us with their presence, so we had to make due with the stars and the new supernova.  That’s right!  I did see the supernova through a pair of binoculars.  It was pretty cool.    I wish I would have seen both, but one out of two isn’t bad for one night.  I still have the Northern Lights to look forward to in the future!
