Snowball Fight
This is Anders, Alseia and Kat from my fic “Anders’ Kat” [AO3]
From the prompts from @smutcoven
Anders shivered into his coat. It may be cold and barely light, but winter or not, he still needed to feed the chickens, cows and other animals on the small farm. He rushed about, trying to get the task done as quickly as possible so that he could get back in his house in front of the fireplace. If it wasn’t for all the hay around he might try a heating spell, but the last thing he needed was to set the barn on fire. So instead he warmed himself with thoughts of sitting in the warm house, maybe with some hot cocoa. He could snuggle on the couch with Kat and their daughter, Alseia. Maybe read a book or two to the girl.
He exited the barn, heading towards the back of it to grab some more firewood.
Thwack!
He felt a snowball hit his leg. Turning he looked around but saw no sign of anyone. As he was turning back towards his task he was hit again, this time between his shoulder blades. Anders whipped around and heard giggling from behind the wagon. A tiny head peeked over the wagon confirming the location.
“It’s on,” he announced. Kneeling down he made several snowballs. A fluffy snowball crashed onto his head as he did.
Right, new plan of attack then.
His hands began to glow blue. He twirled his right one in a circle watching as a large section of snow rose from the ground. He directed it to just over the wagon and let go. Loud sounds of squealing and laughter from his attackers sounded from behind the wagon.
“That’s cheating, Daddy,” Alseia scolded him as she peeked around the wagon, her blonde hair covered in snow.
“All's fair in love and war, little one,” Anders teased.
“That’s right.”
Anders whipped around at hearing Kat’s voice right behind him. Before he had time to react, she put a freezing handful of snow down his back. Anders picked her up and tumbled to the snow covered ground with her as they both laughed.
“Oof,” Anders felt the weight of the five year old landing on his back. He laughed. It may be freezing outside still, but surrounded by his family, all of them laughing, he felt as warm as the sun.
When Olivia gives birth to the twins, her and Anders are on their way back to Ferelden. When she goes into labor, the weather is shit and they’re literally in the middle of nowhere—the only shelter in sight is a little farmhouse.
So they burst inside and pretty much commandeer the house from the couple who live there, who are surprised and are met with a very angry pregnant lady and her glow-y male companion.
Anders delivers the twins himself, with the help of the wife, because it turns out the couple are very nice. It’s so surprising to Olivia and Anders because people haven’t been nice to them like that in sooooo long, and they don’t even believe they deserve it.
So not only are Olivia and Anders overjoyed at their twins being born, they’re happy because they get a real cooked meal and a warm place to stay thanks to the nice couple.
The couple figures out who they are, but they don’t say a word to anyone because their own child was a mage and was taken from them by Templars. So the couple thanks Olivia and Anders for giving their child a chance to fight for his freedom and to see his family once again (they even show them a letter from their son about how he’s coming home because he can).
And that just makes the whole experience that much better, because they’ve brought these beautiful babies into the world who aren’t going to be taken away from them because they’re mages, and they’ve helped at least one other couple have a bit of that with their child as well.
Baby Bethany and Karl are born a month and a half early.
Olivia and Anders are worried they won't make it since they're born while they're on the run, but they do, thanks to all the healing Anders provides for their little mage babies.
