“Calm down for a second, please.” Jade grabbed at the hybrid and, seeing it wasn’t going to move, gave in and brushed Sora’s fur from his current position.

“I’m sincerely sorry I created such a miserable creature. That doesn’t excuse you at all, though. You have to learn how to behave. If not like a human, at least like a well mannered dog. Expectations aren’t high.” He wasn’t sure how much of that Sora understood, though he made the attempt anyway.

“Do you think there’s more than one? More than one soulmate for each one?” (I am ready for an angsty Rose if you are)

“You sound concerned, Rose.” Jade sat up and tried to understand what she was feeling. Did she receive multiple soulmates, or was she just anxious about getting her names? “I’ve never heard of such a thing happening, but I think that’s a pleasant thought, myself. Only someone with a great deal of love would be given multiple soulmates.”

“Syi! Stop running-!” He told them not to run with scissors a thousand times before, and yet, Syi still didn’t seem to understand. What did he mean by undo scissors anyway? What did he do? Jade swore to Lorelei these children were going to give him gray hairs. How could anyone do it?

Jade frowned at the mention of a purpose. Replicas didn’t have a purpose except for the one they defined for themselves. He was sure Iri knew that, Jade raised him after all, but it was still upsetting.

“Iri, Lukura was programmed to want to be the original. Everyone wants to be real, and that’s what he sees as real- being Luke. It’s wrong, it is disrespectful to you and Luke and Asch, but that’s how he sees things, and it will never change. Why else would we resort to putting a child in prison?” Jade thought to himself that perhaps death was a better solution, but somehow concluded that wouldn’t have gained the best reaction from his son. 

“I already told you he’s not good for you. You saw that creature he made. It was thoughtless. Lukura took on the responsibility of a parent with no consideration for what it meant. He has never been responsible enough to handle himself, and he will certainly never be responsible enough to handle you or the hybrid.”

“Less than one, I believe. Er, what brought this up? Does this have anything to do with Celes?” He only half heard that rant from his father.

Tell me, Rose, did you love him?” Heartbreaking as it was to hear, Jade was convinced that destiny was not so cruel as to leave her to mourn for decades.

“If you receive another name, I am confident you will find your true love with them. And if you don’t, then the memories you have of your soulmate should be cherished forever, don’t you agree? There is no need to be sad, Rose. I know you will find joy in whatever fate decides for you.”
