I heard through the grapevine you’re taking requests, so I ran over here as fast as I could!! Could I request a Sungjin scenario or even a headcanon with him as a first-time dad?? Can you imagine the cuteness?! Please and thank you so much!!!!! -B 💙💙💙💙
Thank you for pushing me to challenge myself and supporting me writing more! I told you I owe you a fic and, well, a Dad6 for a Dad6 😊 (PS - everyone: I was the grapevine)
It had been a looong eight months. You could handle the morning sickness and the back pains. You could handle wanting to eat bread and butter pickles with strawberry ice cream even if your mind was telling you no. You could even handle the maternity yoga classes his sister had introduced to you. What you were beginning to think you couldn’t handle though, was Sungjin.
“Sungjin!” you snapped, making him turn around in the pantry. “I told you I can reach everything. And it’s just comeback season! It’s not like you are going on tour! So please, for the love of all that is holy would you just come sit down with me on the couch and stay still!”
You wish you could blame it on the hormones, but he had been the most attentive expectant father in the last eight month. You were truly blessed and really happy you’d been sneaking photos of his crazy preparation antics over the months, but this was on a whole different level.
Sighing, he started putting things back where they had been and pouted all the way to the couch, plopping down in his favorite position – head on your lap facing up with an ear close to your belly.
“You know I could ask someone to stay with you while we do our stages in the next couple of weeks. Just during the day, so that I wouldn’t have to worry as much.”
You leaned down, attempting to kiss his forehead but getting stuck halfway because of your belly. Luckily, Sungjin lifted himself up and gave you a light kiss instead. Relaxing back, you stroked his hair to calm him down.
“I know you could, but I’m not due for another couple of weeks and the doctor said everything seems normal and healthy. She didn’t even prescribe bed rest. I’ve already arranged to work from home until the baby is born so I’m not commuting and I really don’t plan on going out since I get so tired walking around. Please trust me when I say I will call you or your manager the moment I need you. Don’t worry.”
You could see him getting ready to argue back about it, when you felt a kick to your abdomen, which took all his attention. He turned over and put his hands on your stomach, smiling such a soft smile you’d wished you had your camera handy.
“Hi baby. Daddy can’t wait to meet you soon. Mommy’s been carrying you for eight months, lucky her.”
You scoffed just thinking of how hard it had been to even get in and out of bed after month six.
“I’m going to carry you from here on once you come see us. I’ll never ever let you go, I promise.”
The first week of Day6’s comeback had been such a success but Sungjin was already getting exhausted. You tried to have food ready for home once he was home so he could get to bed as soon as possible. Lord knows you guys wouldn’t be getting any sleep once the baby was here.
The interviews had been fun to watch from home. Everyone knew Sungjin was expecting, so they kept asking him how many weeks were left and if he was ready. Some even tried to pry the gender out of him – which was exactly why you both had decided not to find out until they were born. You were positive he would have given it away unintentionally to the group and Jae would tweet obvious hints, letting the secret out. Also, not knowing if your child was a boy or a girl meant Jae couldn’t pester you to name them after him…yet.
Sungjin had his manager put your number on speed dial since he called you between almost every show. It was always just to check in and you’d always respond by saying you were fine and that the baby was dancing along to their group’s songs, making him laugh every time.
“Y/N, are you feeling alright?” Sungjin asked for the… honestly you stopped keeping track of the calls.
“I’m really okay. I’m just cramping up a little more than usual, but I’m just resting on the couch. Maybe if your child hadn’t inherited your dancing skills then I might be a little better.”
Hearing him laugh, you knew you’d calmed his worries. Wincing at another cramp though, you let out a little squeak.
Taking a deep breath first, you said “Really it’s nothing. Just cramps. I’m going to go lay down for a while, so I might miss your next stage.”
“Okay. Call me when you’re up again, that way I won’t disturb you. Rest up for the both of you. We’ve got two tapings today and then I’ll be home.”
“Alright. I love you, Sungjin. Thank you for always thinking of me.”
“I love you too, Y/N. Sleep tight.”
Hanging up the phone, you moved to stand up from the couch when you had to double over from another cramp. You dropped your phone and even knocked your glass of water to the floor as you grabbed the side of the couch in an attempt to hold yourself up.
“Crap. Now I’m going to have to clean that up.” you said to yourself through clenched teeth. Looking at the mess, you realized there was a lot more water than had been in your cup.
“What the – oh. Oh! Oh no!”
Looking down at yourself, you pulled on the bottom of your dress to see the water down the front you hadn’t noticed past your belly.
You spent more minutes than you’d like to admit trying to bend down to pick up your phone. Once you’d grabbed it, you immediately called for an ambulance, knowing you wouldn’t be able to drive yourself. Next, you called Sungjin’s manager, knowing they’d be on stage by now.
“Hello, Y/N. Sungjin can’t talk right now –“
“Taehyun! The baby is coming. Like, now.”
“Now! I’ve already called an ----aggghhhh---- ambulance. Woooooo. I’ll text you the hossssssssssspital as soon as I can.”
“Y/N. Deep breaths. Just deep breaths. I’ll get him there.”
“You promse?” you whispered out, not trusting your voice anymore.
“I promise I will get him there in time. You won’t be alone. Now be strong and we’ll all see you and the baby soon.”
You hung up and walked to the front door, grabbing your go-bag Sungjin had packed two months ago and waiting outside for the ambulance, holding onto the porch railing for support.
You don’t know if your neighbors were startled by the ambulance or if you’d actually told the EMTs who your doctor was, all you could really think about was the pain.
They rushed you into a room and checked you out, saying you were almost dilated enough. Panicking, you grabbed your phone and texted Taehyun the address and room number, before throwing your phone down in favor of grabbing the beds railings.
It was too late for an epidural. That’s one thing you remembered clearly.
You don’t know how long you were waiting before your doctor told you you couldn’t wait for Sungjin anymore. Cursing him, you bore down and started to push.
You’d been pushing for maybe ten minutes when, between your yells, you heard Sungjin yelling your name in the hallway. Knowing he was probably racing ahead without remembering the room number, you took matters into your own hand, or voice.
“Park Sungjin! Get in here!”
You couldn’t help it. You were angry. Mostly at yourself for not realizing you were in labor sooner, but you knew right now if you took it out on him no one would question it.
He came bursting through the door and as much as you wanted to yell, you couldn’t. He was clearly still in his stage clothes and his hair was sticking all over the place, as if he’d been pulling at it repeatedly. You dropped your head back and started to cry. Because he was finally. here.
He rushed and got the protective scrubs on before moving beside you to hold you up on the bed.
“I know but our baby is almost here. You’ve done so so well and I’m so sorry I was late. But I am here and I am with you 100%. I know you can do this, honey.”
He wiped the tears from your eyes, smoothed down your hair, and pressed a kiss to your temple.
Taking a deep breath, you steeled yourself and nodded at your doctor, telling her you were ready to go again.
“Alright Mr. and Mrs. Park. I think we can get your child out in three more big pushes. Ready to meet this little ray of sunshine, Y/N?”
Taking a steadying breath, you said “I’ve got this. I’m ready.”
Sungjin still had his arms around you, so you looped your arm around his outer one to leverage yourself against something sturdy, and what was sturdier than your husband? You grabbed the railing with your hand and pushed. You were screaming, Sungjin was whispering how much he loved you and how proud he was to call you his wife in your ear, and you were pretty sure you could hear the other members outside yelling.
The three pushes felt like more, but before you knew it a little wail pierced the air, followed by a sob of your own as you realized your baby was here. Sungjin laid you back down as he smothered your face in kisses and wiped your tears, neglecting his own that were shining back at you.
“Mr. and Mrs. Park?” your doctor said after doing the initial check-ups. Turning around, you noticed your baby wrapped up in a light yellow blanket. “Would you guys like to meet your daughter?”
