W…wait, what d’ya mean by dads? Do you mean the trader and the Fiend? Uuuuugh, why does everyone think I’m their kid, geez.

I mean, I guess I dunno. The Fiend walks funny ever since he busted up his leg but it ain’t like he can’t hold his own in a fight or whatever. And Trader’s all old and junk but I’ve seen him shoot a lotta shit at this point. Plus I think he’s still okay-ish at punching stuff.

Is this, like, a thing where they both got guns because then it’s probably Trader ‘cause he’s a fast shot. If not, the Fiend’d probably just hit him with his crutch or whatever. Or are we talking a fist fight here? ‘Cause they both fight kinda dirty but I think the Fiend’s faster.

So I guess he wins in two out of the three scenarios I thought of. Maybe if he wasn’t old and junk Trader would win in more of ‘em but he’s like super mega ultra old and the Fiend’s only like super old.

Okay for real tho has Gautier ever accidentally called Trader "Dad" and then been mortified and tried to play it off.

((FUNNY YOU SHOULD MENTION THIS I was just talking to some people on Skype about this yesterday.

The short answer is no. He hasn’t done this yet. Every single time he’s called him dad to this point in canon has been on purpose because there were people around and one or both of them thought it would be a good idea to keep up the family act.

But will he someday? Absolutely.

It probably won’t happen until they’ve been traveling together on-and-off for a few years and Gautier is a tween or a teen. He’d probably blurt it out without meaning to in a completely innocent context (something like “hey dad, can you pass me that wire?”) and catch both of them off-guard. Trader would be just as freaked out about it and there’s a very good chance they’d both run screaming into the night instead of coping with it in a healthy way.

There’s a reason Gautier always calls Trader “gramps” or “pops” instead of dad, and there’s a reason Trader refers to Gautier as “my kid” but not “my son.” They’re essentially a family unit that doesn’t feel comfortable actually admitting they’re family. Gautier still gets worked up and anxious over the idea of having warm, fuzzy, family feelings for anyone. It’s going to be a long, uphill battle getting them to actually start calling each other dad and son without joking about it or having someone else around to lie to.))
