duck doesnt really know what bein internet famous is cuz his last experience with internet culture was in the days of AOL and forums, but when he realizes that people liked his videos he gets genuinely happy and continues making videos about nature and forest safety. even if people do love the funny and weird parts they do take it all to heart and duck expands to things like tutorials on cooking soup. he also makes a video about being trans for pride and aubrey joins in. shes his “manager”
one of the first videos on his account opens with “okay, so one of the kiddos in town asked me for help on their high school bio homework, and i realized i actually knew what they were covering in class, so i’m recording this to help them out. here’s how bark-eating beetles will fuck your gig up if you’re a tree. yes i have a degree in botany, i know what’s going on.”
and he just walks through the monongahela pointing out healthy trees and beetle-infested pines, when he can find them, explaining exactly why beetles boring into trees hurts their circulatory system. he even sketches out a quick diagram of the inside of a tree, pointing out all the different tubes and sections and explaining how rings form. it’s a 35 minute video called “duck newton speaks for the trees.”
a solid minute of the video is just aubrey, who’s running the camera, zooming in really close on a black bear foraging in the woods over duck’s shoulder while he explains the difference between xylem and phloem. then he notices the bear and goes “oh hey, fun fact, the black bear is the state animal of west virginia! did ya know that, aubrey?” “i thought it was john denver” “nah, he’s colorado’s. let’s give it some space, we don’t wanna disturb it while it’s lookin’ for food.” it has over 6 million views. someone made an edit of aubrey zooming in on the bear while duck talks in the background, set to the mii channel music.
just. duck newton as the wholesome dad of the internet is a great image. i would subscribe to duck newton’s youtube channel in a heartbeat. i would support him on patreon. i would fucking buy his merch, the proceeds of which would go towards endangered plant species protection in the forest. he’s just so good
