The Quiet
Ron & Hugo's annual shopping trip turns into an understated moment of bonding. Written for @thedistantdusk for the 2021 HPRomione Discord Secret Santa Exchange! <3

The Quiet
Entering Flourish and Blotts in the few weeks prior to Christmas always gives Ron a jolt of deja vu. The smell of ink and old parchment unleashes memories of cozy December evenings, Hermione reading by the fire, her feet shoved into woolen socks, and a mug of tea steaming from a nearby table. She could sit in silence for hours, lost in a book, listening to nothing but the crackling flames.
In the past, Ron always preferred to spend cold winter evenings on the Quidditch pitch to revel in the solitude — it was the only way he could appreciate the quiet. Growing up with six siblings meant silence was rare, and as a result, he couldn't help but talk when in the presence of others.
They passed these preferences onto their children. Rosie is a lot like him — she can't sit next to someone without talking to them, and she wouldn't be caught dead cozying up by a fire if there's an empty Quidditch pitch nearby. But Hugo? He's his mother's son, through and through. He developed the same flaming red hair, freckled face, and lanky frame as Ron, but has no idea how to hold a broomstick, let alone ride one.
❄️ One night Hermione comes home and finds the whole cottage frozen into an ice cube. Literally everything has a huge thick crust of ice on it. Despite the cold, she can immediately feel sweat streaming down her spine and adrenaline rushing through her veins. Fear takes over and she pulls out her wand. Is this unexplainable ice the reason Ron hasn’t answered her Patronus? Where is her family?
But she gets the answer as soon as she approaches the living room and hears her husband and kids singing a very loud off-tune version of “Let it go”. Relieved she opens the door and finds Ron and Rosie dancing in matching Elsa dresses on a huge self-built ice castle. Crookshanks is dressed up as a very grumpy-looking Olaf and little reindeer Hugo is seated on Ron’s shoulders, beaming under his antlers. When her family notices she’s home, they immediately beckon her over to join them. She smiles and can’t wait to turn into Anna. ❄️

Silly Daddy
Hermione was struggling to get a squirming Rose into her pram for her dentist appointment with Hermione’s father. Ron could see his wife and daughter were both getting agitated, so he crept up behind Hermione and Rose’s little face lit up at the sight of her father.
Ron began to make silly faces at Rose who stopped squirming and began to giggle. Hermione was able to get her daughter into the pram.
“Is your daddy being silly again, Rosie?” Hermione asked Rose.
“Silly Daddy!” Rose exclaimed happily and Ron stared at his daughter in shock.
“Did you hear that?” Ron asked Hermione, not daring to believe his ears. “She called me a silly daddy!”
“Yes, I’m certain you were probably doing something silly behind my back, love,” Hermione said with a smile.
“That’s the first time she’s ever called me daddy,” Ron said. “I’ve got to tell Harry and Ginny. And George and Bill and-”
“Don’t exhaust yourself, Ron,” Hermione said, shaking her head with a smile. “We might as well tell the whole family.”
“She’s got your brains,” Ron said, looking at Rose proudly who was beaming up at Ron. “I keep telling you she’s got your brains.”
“Yes, she's very intelligent, isn’t she?” Hermione said. “Well, I’ve got to go, Ron otherwise I’ll be late. Thanks for your help, love. I couldn’t do it without you.”
Hermione pecked Ron on the cheek and opened the front door and pushed Rose’s pram out.
Ron grabbed the Floo Powder and threw it into the fireplace where green flames roared to life in the grate. Ron shouted the name of the Potter’s House and stuck his head into the fireplace.
“Hey, Harry!” Ron shouted. “You’d never guess what Rosie called me just now.”
