I live in a really small town too, but like we're all fucking nerds in this town, and we're just all going out. The fact of the matter is that Peter Parker is a teenager, an orphan who is raised by his aunt in a single parent household, and a middle-aged billionaire (open about his identity) superhero blackmailed him into joining a fight he had no stake in by threatening to out his superhero identity to his aunt.

What is he gonna do?

Say no to Tony Stark, powerful billionaire, thus causing him to reveal to Aunt May that “hey, your nephew, the kid you’re supposed to watch, has been vigilanting it up in a Spider costume”.

Yeah, that would have gone just great.

(Not to mention, Peter even mentions he was just a dumb kid in various comics, the first that comes to mind being the first Young Avengers run.)
