i love how in the dadplates/early mercy timeline, gaster and asgore are the fucking spitting image of a married couple in the throes of new parenthood. LIKE

gaster sassing asgore with that “whaaaaattt” is so fucking funny but i think it also shows a level of casual comfort having developed between them in this timeline. gaster is starting to see asgore as more of an equal (rather than an untouchable god) now that theyre working as a team to raise the brothers, and thus, petty bickering and sass is now acceptable behaviour. and thats just really cute to me

thinkin abt dadplates/early mercy again.

every time gaster looks at the brothers, he thinks of the horrible things he would have done to them had the tubes not broken down. he’s long since burned his concept sketches of the plates, but they haunt him every time he closes his eye. he sees asgore with the brothers, how happy they make him, and spirals down a rabbit hole of what would he think of me if he knew what i almost did to them.

they sleep on his shoulder, they hide in his sweater, their little hands hold so tight onto his. he looks into those tiny sockets and sees nothing but love and adoration. he doesnt realize hes crying until tiny papyrus offers him a tissue.

asgore finds him one night in their room. he’s holding up one of his hands, looking at their sleeping faces through the hole, wondering how he could have ever even thought to be so cruel to these tiny creatures that love him so much.

asgore can tell he’s upset, but not about what, so he just silently hugs him from behind.

“I’m here if you need to talk.”

gaster just sighs, knowing he can never tell a soul.

he doesn’t sleep well that night.
