tldr at the end :D
Ok. So i do enjoy Scoochie Boochie a great amount, but the end of his album 'Sunrise at Dawn in Space' is the song 'Next Album's Called: Chronicles of Areas [pronounced Airy Ass for reasons] Book V: Dadquest'. The song in itself, specifically the lyrics, are pretty nothing burger; a review of the past few songs, his goals for the future, and then his typical "i'm so great and sexy" for the next two minutes. But what really bugs me is the actual notes of the music.
Because you see, if you were like me and had an embarrassingly huge Dream SMP phase a few years ago, you would know that there was an artist named Derivakat who frequently made fansongs about it during its prime. These songs were put into two albums called 'Records of the SMP' and 'Songs of the SMP'.
The fourth song in 'Songs of the SMP' is called 'Blue'. For anybody who cares, it's an adorable and wholesome song about Ghostbur and his blue sheep named Friend.
(by the way, before I get to the point, I'd like to point out that his dadquest album cover art is gorgeous. I tried to find the artist, and the only lead I got was on this site, https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/scoochie-boochie/dadquest/, which my computer for some reason just cannot deal with. If anypony would like to look at that and see if he drew the cover and then let me know, that would be great. His lost city of Atlantits album cover was painted by Megan Grimm at https://megangrimm.art/home-1/, but I couldn't find that crediting on his website.)
This is important because, if you compare the two songs, the similarity is glaringly obvious: they have nearly the exact same notes, instruments, and general beat. The only real difference is a key change between the two, and some extra reverb and background noise on scoochie's part.
'Blue' was released at the end of December, 2020, while (god i'm not writing that. were calling it:) 'NAC:CoABV:D' was released (along with the rest of the album) in July 2022, two years after 'Blue'.
If you go take a listen, at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNyO_L_2bqE for 'Blue' and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHmEkRINBU4 for 'NAC:CoABV:D', you'll see that they're very similar musically. Not lyrically, god not lyrically. But they are similar, and I think that's interesting. And also probably important to mention? Don't get me wrong, I love scoochie boochie as much as the next person and Derivakat holds a place in my heart, but this seems too important to overlook. maybe.
another thing that seemed vaguely relevant was this reddit post, in r/scoochieboochie:
fascinating. This offers evidence towards the claim that Scoochie just managed to stumble across this beat while looking for his typical sound. However, the specific mention of NAC:CoABV:D makes me wonder. Wonder what? I have no fucking clue, it just seemed curious. Though to be fair, that beat is a banger. I can't really blame him.
TL;DR:
Scoochie Boochie released a song with the same musicality, beat, notes (fuck I don't know how to phrase it. just like listen to them both and you'll see) as a preexisting Derivakat song, 2 years after Derivakat released theirs. kinda just a psa I guess. idk
