Light in the darkness
Daemon Targaryen x fem reader x Rhaenyra Targaryen
Mentions of pain, birth, blood, child loss (Lucerys and Visenya), the reader being Velaryon, PolyDaemyra. The name of the baby was created by me and it means "the one who guides/illuminates"
Small clarification: In this universe, Daemon was present at Visenya's birth, the reader also wanted to be there but Rhaenyra prevented it due to her advanced pregnancy so she took Daemon and Rhaenyra's place on the council.
Luke's death triggers several events, including the birth of a new Targaryen...
The news of Lucerys Velaryon's death was delivered to Daemon, and the decision to tell his wives was in his hands.
You were on your way to the painted table where the council was meeting, discussing the next steps. Upon arriving, you saw Rhaenyra and Daemon holding hands, staring into the fire.
A shiver ran down your spine.
You touched your swollen belly in an attempt to calm yourself, watching as everyone turned to look at you and Daemon gave you a look of pity and concern.
He approached slowly, placed his hand on your belly, and gently said,
"A letter has arrived notifying of Luke's death at the hands of Aemond."
Your breath caught, your eyes filled with tears. You couldn't believe that the sweet boy who had become your son would no longer be with you, no longer sharing walks, laughter, books you read, and any advice he needed.
He had been taken from you. In a matter of hours, you had lost a child. Although he wasn't biologically yours, you loved him as such.
With concern, you turned to look at Rhaenyra, who turned to look at you with rage and vengeance filling her eyes.
"Nyra..." you said, your voice breaking.
She approached, placed her hand on your belly, looked at you with pain, and left. At that moment, a sharp pain shot through your stomach, your breathing began to rattle, and in a matter of seconds, you felt something run down your legs.
Desperately, you put your hand under your dress, causing everyone present to turn around, except for Daemon, who was looking at you worriedly.
You pulled your hand out and saw it wet and covered in blood. You looked at your husband, eyes filled with tears and despair.
The baby was on the way, and there was nothing that could stop it.
You were pacing through your shared room with your husband and wife, where days before Rhaenyra had given birth to Visenya, who hadn't survived.
You hadn't let anyone near you, even though you were almost nine months pregnant, the birth had come early, and judging by the screams you'd heard Rhaenyra make a few days earlier, you were scared to death.
But the baby wasn't going to wait, and the pain you felt was growing more and more constant. The maester and the ladies-in-waiting were standing to one side after trying to help and were attacked by your fury.
You weren't going to let any of them get close.
The more you could avoid it, the more you would do it. Daemon came through the door after being sent by you to find Rhaenyra. He too had been a victim of your fury, but she had already grabbed her riding clothes and her dragon and taken flight in search of something that would confirm her child's death.
She wouldn't believe it until she saw it.
"My love, let them help you," Daemon said, approaching you.
"No, I won't let any of them touch me. I just want my mother here."
Daemon turned to look at Elinda, who was staring at everything, afraid that the events of a few days ago would repeat themselves. He nodded at her to go find Rhaenys.
Your husband remained at your side, massaging your lower back but still unable to convince you to remove your dress. He was helping you walk through a contraction when Rhaenys appeared in the doorway.
You turned to look at her with fear and hope in your eyes, like when you were a child and terrified of storms, hiding in your mother's arms. But now you were an adult and wished she could protect you from labor too.
"Mom, please make it stop," you begged, your eyes filling with tears.
"Oh, my little girl, I can't stop it, but I'm here to support you. How about we take off your dress first?"
You nodded in resignation, letting Daemon open the buttons on the back and gently pull down your dress, which was already covered in blood, seeping through your nightgown beneath it.
A contraction ripped through your back, causing you to fall to your knees, but before you hit the ground, Daemon and Rhaenys held you.
"The baby must be ready by now," the maester said with concern.
You looked at your mother in fear and then saw Daemon remove his robes and change into a shirt. He rolled up his sleeves and approached a bowl to wash his hands and arms.
"Maester, guide me to what I should do."
"Daemon, what are you doing?" You asked with concern.
"I won't force you to be examined, so I'll help you deliver."
"And I'll be here with you," Rhaenys said, holding your arms with gentle caresses.
Your mother helped you move to the bed, placing you on your knees on the floor and resting your arms on the bed for support. She lay in front of you and held your hands firmly and lovingly.
"Good, my prince, you must see if the baby is crowning."
Daemon guided your hips further out so he could see more clearly.
"The baby is ready."
A contraction came again, causing you to moan and gasp in pain.
"Mom, I'm scared" you said between sobs.
"Listen to me, darling. You're a Targaryen. The dragon's blood runs thick through your veins, along with the resilience of the Velaryons. You're a dragon. You can handle this and more. Now let's have this baby, shall we?"
A new strength formed in you; you weren't going to let fear win.
You settled in and without warning, began to push, causing Daemon to prepare to welcome the newest member of the family.
"By all the gods of Valyria, I will never let you touch me again, Daemon Targaryen."
A soft laugh escaped your husband, knowing it was impossible for you not to want him to touch you again.
Amid contractions, your pushing, your screams and cries, your son was finally born, but his cries went unheard, causing concern among everyone in the room.
The maester quickly approached, cutting the umbilical cord and taking the baby to another side, followed by the ladies.
"What's wrong? What's wrong with my baby?"
"Calm down, honey, everything's fine, they just want to check him," Daemon tried to reassure you without showing his concern.
"Why isn't he crying?" you said, ignoring that he had said it was a boy.
At that moment, a loud cry crossed the room.
Your baby was fine and was being guided into your arms, still covered in blood and screaming in search of his mother.
Being in your arms, he calmed down instantly. You held him against your chest, letting him listen to your heartbeat, and you placed a kiss of relief on his little head.
Rhaenys was speechless, her baby just got a baby, it was like yesterday when you were born and she hold you in her arms. The time flied and the word was a chaos, sometimes all she wanted to do was go back in time and hold and protect her three babies.
Although you had already been assured that the baby was in perfect condition, you didn't let anyone take him from your arms.
Even with your legs shaking, you managed to stay upright so you could wash and change him.
When he was ready, you held him to your chest while Daemon helped you deliver the placenta, then cleaned and changed you.
After they made sure you were okay, the maester and the ladies-in-waiting left.
"Congratulations, Your Grace."
With a slight bow, they left the room, leaving you with your husband, your mother and your new family member.
"You have done excellently, my girl. He is a beautiful and strong boy. I will let you rest." Rhaenys placed a soft kiss on your forehead.
"Thank you, Mother. Please let me know if there is any news of Rhaenyra" you said, concerned for your wife.
After nodding at your request, Rhaenys left the room, leaving you with your husband and son so you could rest. Daemon climbed into bed beside you, placing his arm around your shoulders, bringing you closer to his chest as he gently stroked his son's head.
"Have you thought of a name, my love?"
"I was thinking of Velyntor. He's unique, and it means the one who guides or illuminates. What do you think?"
"I think it fits our beautiful boy perfectly."
Calm reigned in the room, with your son nursing at your breast, you leaning on your husband's chest.
Sadness remained present, unable to cloud this moment, but the absence of your wife and the death of your son were slowly settling in.
The war was raging, and now it was impossible to deter it, but this small moment was a ray of hope that everything would be all right.
It was your small light in the darkness that settled over the kingdom, where you chose to briefly ignore the disasters that were about to happen.
