Building enough ships to take the Dothraki army to Westeros took longer than anyone planned, but Daenerys kept them occupied with having Rollo lead them on Yunkai to give the freed slaves there the chance to establish a ruling council, then Astapor to do the same. It gave the Dothraki something to do and it helped establish Rollo as a competent leader in battle, which he was. She disliked sending him away, but it was necessary to ensure that she was leaving Essos without the chance that slaving could be reestablished.
Meanwhile, Daenerys’ belly grew larger. Missandei doted on her, limiting her time on the audience bench and relying on Tyrion to adhere to Dany’s wishes, even staying with her until she fell asleep when Rollo was gone. At least the city was at peace now, with no sign of a resurgence in the Harpies. The trade agreements she’d wrought with the other cities in Essos were providing for a great economy and prosperity spread to the poorest who could learn a trade through apprenticing. She missed her husband, though, and the months apart drew out longer than she cared for, but finally, the ships were gathered in the bay and the Dothraki returned, with Rollo at their head.
The ocean voyage was uncomfortable, but her husband did everything he could to make her comfortable, but by the time they had landed near Kattegat, Daenerys time was drawing dangerously close. Arriving in the Freefolk village, there was a blur of activity around her and focused on her, and Dany held tightly to Rollo’s hand, leaning against him as he lead her to his home. “Healer. Get the healer,” Dany gasped, holding her free hand under the swell of her belly. They had only taken a few steps into his home and she felt a stabbing pain.
