One of the many things about Cal Kestis that makes me go Insane™️ is how he offers surrender and second chances to his villains. To Trilla, to Bode, to Malicos, to Dagan, to Masana.
Why? Why does Cal keep trying to talk down his villains?
Because it worked. Just once. With Merrin.
Merrin may have ended up as part of his crew and as his love interest but she started as an antagonist. Cal talked to her, found their common ground, explained himself and befriended her. His first time trying to talk down an antagonist and he succeeded.
No wonder he keeps trying.
