Book Review!!
Daggermouth - H. M. Wolfe
Genre: Dystopian Dark Romance
My Rating: 4.75⭐️
Summary:
In this dystopian world the city of New Found Haven is divided into three rings; the Heart at the center, where the masked elite reside; the Cardinal, where the working class live; the Boundary, the outermost ring of the city where the remaining citizens survive. There is no mercy in New Found Haven and even love can be a death sentence if it’s outside your ring.
Shadera, an assassin from the Boundary, is hired to kill the President’s son, Greyson Serel. Things get messy though when Shadera fails her mission and instead ends up bound to Greyson through marriage. The two have to decide where their loyalties lie as secrets are revealed and a rebellion grows within the city.
Review:
Lately every book feels repetitive and tropey, especially in the romance genre. BUT NOT THIS ONE. It had all the best tropes - enemies to lovers, forced proximity - but still felt original and unique. I’m pretty sure my jaw dislocated from how hard it dropped at the plot twists in this book. If you loved The Hunger Games, The Lunar Chronicles, or Alchemised, you will love this.
Sometimes I get so hype about a book coming out that I preorder it. Then, it somehow always gets delayed in transit. And against all odds, I end up with two copies.
(I am a heathen and WILL drive up to 200 miles one way to acquire said book)
Here's the rant, bookblr PLEASE EDUCATE ME
How are people in books getting sexually attracted to each other while ABSOLUTELY HATING each other's guts????
Currently reading Daggermouth, Girl thinks Boy is leading a genocide of her people. Boy thinks Girl stands for the same cause that killed his brother. SHE FULLY TRIED TO MURDER HIM 2 CHAPTERS AGO. AND NOW THEY ARE ATTRACTED TO EACH OTHER???
Bro they have not had A SINGLE conversation that did not end in a physical fight yet and you want me to believe...
They are literally 30??? Not even teenagers atp
Am I wrong or is this just lazy bad writing?
Are you going to read Daggermouth? It’s a self pub to trad dystopian romance that’s been trending for a bit. I was also curious if you had any interest in reading any of the self to trad books that are coming out this year?
I wasn’t familiar with it! This blurb is… bad. Like quality of the actual books aside, why are so many blurbs for mainstream stuff so needlessly complicated and over detailed?
And I am seeing less of what new releases are currently being hyped as I’m not spending as much time on twitter. I’m open to suggestions! What books are making a splash rn?
I made this for a friend a while back but here’s a rebind of Daggermouth by HM Wolfe 🖤🖤🖤
Lovely commissioned art by @moonssnail
it truly was so much fun bring to life the idea!
I might feel like shit and be shit and also be tired as fuck and evil also but at least I have Daggermouth in my headphones
