What are your favourite OTP Tellywood theme songs and why?? (Ex. O Jaana from IB and Rabba Ve from IPKKND)
Hi anon!
I looooooove O Jaana. It just makes me feel all the feelz, happy when in a good scene, weepy in a sad scene. I prefer the female happy version, and the male sad version. Just ugh. Right to the heart, whenever it plays. 💘💘💘😭😭😭
Others I love:
Bol Na Dil Se - Tumhari Paakhi: Just a gorgeous song altogether. It captures Paakhi’s sunshiney personality so well! Makes me so happy whenever I hear it. 😊😊😊
Ek Duje Ke Vaaste Title Track: Beautiful lyrics, excellent rendition by Jubin Nautiyal. Fits the angst of Shravan/Sumo and their relationship really well. 💖💖💖
The instrumental theme that played when Khushi thinks Arnav’s disappeared and she’s leaving him a voicemail asking him to come back, but discovers him standing behind her.
In general I preferred IPKKND’s instrumental themes better than the ones with lyrics.
Jiya Re - Dahleez: Again, beautifully sung by Jubin. Swadheenta and Adarsh were a pretty non-dramatic couple compared to all the others. The song suits that caaaalm and peaceful vibe they exude. 💞💞💞
My blackhole of a brain isn’t allowing me to remember any others; but also, the trend of original theme songs is largely newer (started/popularized by IPKKND, I think?) Before, shows just used to have Bollywood songs as the theme for the couple (especially in Ekta Kapoor shows. Which was pretty much all I watched.)
This ask sent me into a spiral on Youtube, where I watched the title tracks of almost every show since the 90s. So the following aren’t strictly “theme songs”, but title tracks that I loved back in the day (in no particular order):
Kasautii Zindagii Kay
Kasamh Se
Kkusum
Hum Pardesi Ho Gaye
Kutumb
Kavyanjali
Miilee
Kis Desh Mein Hai Mera Dil
Special mention to the 2003 Star Parivaar Theme Song, which I *still* know all the lyrics to. (The fuck???? WHY?????? WHY DOES MY BRAIN RETAIN SUCH USELESS INFORMATION??????)
got invested in another hindi serial which sucks because the fandom is tiny and the only ship im obsessed with is adarsh’s older brother and his wife. here’s hoping they don’t become evil and instead repair their marriage(if it’s a loveless one like they made it look)🤞🏽

Star Plus has changed its tagline from 'Nayi Soch' to 'rishta vahi, baat nayi'. What do you think of this?
Hi anon!
Well, to be frank it doesn’t matter what tagline it uses, because no one really pays attention to it , and by no one, I’m referring to the TV audiences who decide the fate of shows at the end of the day.
Coming to ‘Nayi Soch’ campaign of Star Plus, to be fair Star Plus did try. Look at it this way:
1. Jaana Na dil se Door was one of the first shows that featured a almost-feminist male lead in Atharva Sujata. The whole SP campaign of promoting the mother’s name/surname was copied from this serial. But SP never gave any credit to the producers/makers of this show for this.
2. Then there were serials like POW and Dahleez which featured strong-willed and truly independent female leads, and also had a compelling story to tell. These serials were aired on the late night slot (10/10.30)
3. Then comes the ‘Dopehar shows’ like Kya kasoor hai Aamla Ka, Dhhai Kilo Prem, etc, which again tried to tell a different kind of tale featuring women who challenged the society and its norms in their small or big way.
4. Coming to the main stream shows, there is Rishton Ka Chakravyuh and Naamkarann. RKC for the first time gave us a grey, layered female lead in the form of Satrupa, a woman who could do anything to achieve her aims, and this anything involved many morally questionable actions. People could hate/dislike Satrupa, but they couldn’t deny that she was damn powerful. In Naamkarann, we had Avni who also fought against the society and its labels, and more importantly it gave us Neil Khanna, who is one of the most admirable male leads I’ve seen in a long time.
5. Even in Yeh Rishta kya kehlata hai (YRKKH), which is a show that is set within the typical family background, we have Karthik who tries to be a supportive and loving husband to Naira.
So, dismissing Star Plus’s claim to newness as sham is an incomplete analysis of the whole situation.
SP’s fault lies in its insane lust for ratings. Because ratings mean money. With the exception of YRKKH and Naamkarann, all the shows did badly on ratings due to varied reasons like lack of interest from audience to shoddy execution of the story by makers towards the end. Thats why all of these shows were taken off air one by one.
Even Naamkarann which did decently well for ratings, was taken off air recently.
SP tried to do something new but I guess lack of encouragement from the audience (in the form of TRPs) made it change its mind mid-way. It was an honestly half-assed attempt, but at least I’ll award them points for trying.
SP was ruled by the Ekta brand of saas-bahu shows in the 90′s and first decade of this century. Sadly, that image has stuck. And SP has tried to get rid of that image.
Unfortunately, it isn’t doing any better now, because whenever people think SP they think Yeh Hai Mohabattein or Ishqbaaz which have ek se badhkar ek asshole male leads like Raman or Obros. Even if these male leads redeem themselves, its at the cost of breaking the spirit and confidence of female leads by repeatedly humiliating and abusing them.
I don’t think it matters what the tagline is, until the entire set up is rebranded. The fans of YHM themselves are asking the producers to end the show, because they can’t see the story repeating itself and the constant debasement of the female lead. And I know the Twitter/IF fandoms love IB, but I agree with KuLee that IB has lost its original charm long back.
Might as well get rid of all the old guard and bring in newer, better shows.
