Geralt let himself drop into the plushy chair in the corner of the upstairs room. Regis' warning cry came too late, something already had its teeth in Geralt's ass.

Jumping up, he spun around, cursing the fact that he was wearing neither armour nor swords. Hand raised in the middle of casting Quen, Geralt stared at the sad heap of wool on the chair, the broken remains of wooden needles sticking out of it.

"Well, I think that is a pair of knitting needles that will never attack anyone ever again." Regis' voice shook a little with hidden laughter.

"Knitting? I didn't know you did that?" Geralt had certainly never seen Regis knit. Sew, yes. They both did that, out of necessity and because they enjoyed it. Geralt enjoyed it more now that he had the time to do it properly, and had thought more than once about making clothes instead of just repairing them.

"I do." Regis gathered up the splintered needles and the dark green wool. "We've not been together so long that you have learned everything about me. I admit, I relish the chance of surprising you once in a while."

"Sorry about the needles. Can you save—what are you making anyway?" A few more splinters clattered to the floor and Geralt winced.

"Gloves. And yes. I have more needles, and I can salvage this. Not to worry." Placing the whole mess in a lidded basket, Regis took the seat opposite Geralt and picked up the teapot on the table between them. He poured and the scent of oranges filled the room. "But first, let's have tea. I am sure you need it after the shock of being attacked by a piece of knitwear in your own home."
