No thoughts this week. Tried out the flower motif for the eye, I would love to look at kajal eyes where the kajal almost glistens like tears.
At this point I am looking at clothes that I would wear from the men’s section. Not sure about this detour where I referenced a baby macaque for the face
This is looking at a much younger version
I like this hairstyle

This week I looked at references to understand structure of the face. I have in mind a Bengali boy, wide face and prominent eye bag, I liked this doodle of the eye design not sure how it will look when cleaned up.
I tried an eye design with a floral motif

During the pandemic I made an animation for a Mark Fiddes poem called Polite Safety Notice. At the heart of it, the poem is about despair at being a man and not having tools to deal with the patriarchy. I used a symbol of a leaf at the end which moved like a flame to show the connection with a similar kind of hopelessness projected about climate change
“It’s too late to intervene. You must step away. Let nature take its course”
Incidentally the poem became viral on Tiktok and to my surprise a lot of boys commented on how they feel- overwhelming sadness. I didn’t expect that.
I came across Power, Parenting and Patriarchy by bell hooks in the anthology No! Against Adult Supremacy where it states:
Feminist attention to children almost always focused on girl children, on attacking sexist biases and promoting alternative images. Now and then feminists would call attention to the need to raise boys in an anti-sexist manner but for the most part the critique of the male patriarchy, the insistence that all men had it better than all women, trickled down.
Honestly I don’t really understand why boys on the internet not read more of bell hooks- so much love and kindness has been given towards them in the texts!
Some of these ideas have gone behind maintaining this sketchbook. I hopefully will find a character to develop further into a story and other characters. Sometimes I imagine what it would be like if I were a man?
These were the initial sketches. I had a fair idea about his hair but I didn’t really know what I fancied about him
I made this after watching You are my Destiny (ALL VERSRIONS!) and I love this drama a lot even though it is a chaotic mess.
Here come my eye design tests
Ma liked this one. Said it looks like Victor Bannerjee in Ghare Baire
