TO THE BAD DANCE PARENT...
Dear Dance Parent,
I would like to let you know how I feel about you. I do not mean to insult or be rude to you or anything but I just have to express what I’ve been feeling for the past years. It’s bothersome and very disrespectful to the teachers and studio owners.
1. STOP GOSSIPING ABOUT YOUR TEACHERS OR THE SCHOOL - If you decide to be committed to the dance world/dance studio then respect is the least you could give. Your child’s teacher spends hours on coaching your child. If you don’t like the way your teacher handles things talk to her directly. There’s no need to gossip about it. Or better yet just leave the studio. It is a waste of time gossiping about them. You’re only making your child look bad! If you don’t like the studio, LEAVE.
2. PAY YOUR BILLS ON TIME - Seriously?! Is this even supposed to be a problem?! Would you even be able to get out of a store without paying what you bought? Of course not. Just because it is just a dance studio, it doesn’t mean that you could pay late. Studio owners also pay their studio bills/staff, it doesn’t just go straight into their pockets. Plus, you get what your money’s worth!
3. QUESTIONING YOUR TEACHER - This happens most of the time. Parents may think that their child is ready to move up to the next level when the teacher thinks they’re not. Trust your teacher. Your teacher knows what they’re doing, they are professionals and they are trained well. They would not make your child do something they couldn’t do. Wait. Be Patient. Let your child be ready for the next level. Trust your teacher!
4. FOLLOWING THE RULES AND REGULATIONS - Rules are implemented in any school you go to, whether it’s academic or just for extra curricular activities. When someone does not feel that the rules apply to them, it gets crazy! It is not only your school that has those kinds of rules. Almost all schools have the same rules. This does not only cause a problem to the studio owner but the child. Remember the school has the right to expel your child. You are only embarrassing your child and making them look bad when you don’t follow the rules implemented.
5. GET YOUR CHILD TO CLASS AND ON TIME - If your child is sick then fine, don’t go to class. But missing a class for a shopping day/vacation?! That is unacceptable. Missing one class ruins the progress of your child. It’s crazy how it’s the parents who don’t bring their children to class and they have the right to complain about their children looking lost on stage or not getting moved up to the next level. Don’t look at me! You’re the one who doesn’t bring your child to class. Look at the other girls who come regularly and on time, don’t they look beautiful on stage?
6. FIGHTING FOR A GOOD SPOT - Parents tend to want what’s best for their child. I get that, every parent wants that. But when it comes to dance do not bribe your teacher to get your child in the front and center when you know yourself she doesn’t deserve it. Doing it only embarrasses your child.
7. LEAD BY EXAMPLE - What your child sees, they will do. You are the role models in your children’s lives. Remember your manners. If you want your child to be develop poise, discipline, “class” then show them how to be that. You are the main role models! What you do, they do.
If only parents understood what teachers go through everyday. It isn’t just all happy time. We need to deal with these kinds of parents and it just sickens me. All the stuff listed above are just a few things bad dance parents do. I understand that you want what’s best for your child but sometimes what’s best for your child is to hold her back a couple of years and wait till she’s ready.
Parents can ruin their children. And they don’t realize that it’s the children that suffer, not them. You only embarrass them and get them kicked out of the school if you continue to have that behavior. Trust your teachers, they know what’s best for you and your child. Let your child have fun in class! It’s their time to just relax and enjoy, get their thoughts off of school. Parents, just need to chill out. We know what’s best for your child. Trust us and we will turn your children into stars!
And always remember: GOOD MANNERS AND PROPER ETIQUETTE IS ALWAYS EXPECTED!
Yours truly,
Your Dance Teacher
