Making the right choice is crucial: Transparency beyond May 2016

The campaigning for the 2016 presidential elections in the Philippines has already begun. The countdown to the 2016 Presidential election has started. VP Binay has officially declared his presidential ambitions, dropped hints on who will be his possible running mates, started building a new party, and courted members of his coalition. Others have kept silent about their intentions. In that respect is no doubt they are also working behind the scenes: organizing, bribing, favor trading, vote-buying, lining up celebrity endorsers and all the fun stuff that Filipino politicians do while waiting to unveil their election machine.

The nation needs to prepare ahead of time for the 2016 national election. It is a very important election because Filipinos will choose their leader for the next six years and their choice could either build or break the progressive streak that the incumbent administration has started.

Decent of the Filipino political culture potshots, let us move to something positive like what the incumbent administration has accomplished so far.

People frequently wonder what the Philippines would be like if the president, instead of the dictator Marcos had been Ninoy Aquino or Jose Diokno. What would the nation’s economy be like today? What if the Philippines stayed as the second richest country in Asia or even just the third or fourth or fifth most productive country in Asia?

We are now the second fastest developing economy in Asia. This government has departed a long way in the fight against corruption at the highest level. A former president, a chief justice of the Supreme Court, three senators have been place in jail for corruption. Major infrastructure projects have commenced or are about to start. A long delayed and much needed reform in basic education- through the K to 12 program has finally gotten off the ground under the direction of Br. Armin Luistro FSC.

The positive political, societal and economic progress is earning the Philippines some global respect.

Good news around the Philippines is spreading around the world. The recent Mindanao peace agreement is a positive component in how the world sees the Philippines. World opinion also lauded its decision of getting to the world tribunal about the South Sea dispute with China. Its upgraded credit rating to investment grade based on “’robust economic performance,’ ongoing fiscal and debt consolidation, political stability and improved governance” is already attracting much-needed local and international capital as well as foreign investment inflows.

The prepayment of the government’s foreign debt service looks just. The budget deficit for FY2013 is just 1.4% of the GDP. Furthermore, the Philippines have improved its ranking in various global economic indices.

The efforts to clean the government of dirty politics and corrupt officials have not passed unnoticed. Among 177 countries profiled by Transparency International, Philippines went from 105th in 2012 to 94th for 2013. Along the scale of 0-100, 0 being corrupt and 100 being clean, the Philippines received a score of 36 as opposed to 32 the previous year. There is no question that as the corruption sweep continues, the Philippines’ ranking and scores will continue to ascend.

Whoever replaces President Benigno Aquino III in 2016 has humongous shoes to fill. He or she will have to be able to keep making good policy decisions to hold on to the newfound positive global feedback.

The citizens of the Philippines have the obligation and responsibility to choose the best presidential candidate in 2016. Superficial qualities such as personality and fame should be shunned. A new yardstick based on ethics and principles should be the new norm in voting.

10 Qualities to Look for in a Presidential Candidate

1. Integrity/ Honesty – Does your chosen candidate have a track record of being an honorable person? Dishonest leaders had been voted into office before with great costs to the people. Money stolen by a mendacious official is money set aside for public infrastructures and services the citizens will never receive. A corrupt pilferer of government coffers should not take in any vote.

2. Power to delegate – Has your pick demonstrated an executive ability to hire, supervise and monitor people? The president accepts the duty to pick and appoint upstanding people to the Executive Office of the President and the Cabinet. The regime is a complex system with a lot of duties and responsibilities to its citizens that is dispensed through its various offices and departments. The President needs the power to delegate, as he cannot do all the tasks needed to run a country by himself.

3. Confidence/Security– Does he/she exudes confidence and appears secure? A confident and secure leader has no problem believing and engaging others. He/she does not have the need for arrogance or a feeling of superiority in society to convey his presence. As they state in the Southern US, “ If you have to tell someone you are a lady, chances are you’re not.” It is je ne sais quoi and someone with confidence and security radiates with it.

4. Communication Skills – Does he/she put across his/her intentions effectively with people from all walkways of life? Communication is performed not only by speaking, but as well by listening . A good leader speaks in clear and concise manner and listens attentively. A good president will need communication skills to prevent the citizens up-to date with the government’s performance, successes and failures as well as to find out what his constituents want or need from the government.

5. Sense of Humor / Positive Attitude – Does he/she smile a lot and not get himself/herself seriously? Is he/she able to diffuse a difficult position by looking at its lighter side? A good-natured leader will often reach better decisions, as he/she is not afraid to show his/her humanity in public.

6. Dedication/ Passion – Has he/she shown commitment and passion in her past jobs? Dedicated and passionate people make highly effective leaders, as they are tenacious and persistent. They will see to it that a goal is met and a vision is made. Their focus and perseverance often pays off so betting on a trusted and passionate candidate will likely yield positive results.

7. Power to Inspire – Does he/she has achieved that motivate others to emulate? Is he/she sincere and outspoken? The power to inspire is an important quality, as people look up at the president as a role model. “Cause what I say but don’t do what I do” will breed societal resistance and sanctimony.

8. Competence – Does he/she possesses the necessary skills, knowledge and abilities to govern a morally and fiscally insolvent country? A competent president does not need to be an expert in all theories and patterns of public administration but he/she needs to be self-motivated and a fast learner.

9. Courage – Is he/she decisive and capable to make tough calls when it’s needed? A brave person is not fearless. He/she just receives the ability to face fear, danger, pain, uncertainty, intimidation and other difficulties without warping or caving in. Calm self-assurance raises the degree of confidence in one’s decisions.

10. Servanthood/Selflessness – Does he/she put people first as his/her priority? Does he/she eschew personal power and wealth building on the backbone of the masses? The president is still a public servant who is tasked to attend after the well-being of the populace. He/she plays for the citizenry and not the other way around.

The world is finally following the Philippines closely and with great interest. Exerting the right to vote is a privilege as well as a great responsibility, especially in 2016. The future of the Philippines is in the 2016 voters’ court. If they do not drop the egg, the long-awaited tiger economy might be just around the corner.

The most awaited Elections 2016

The questions are: Who deserve the next president in our presidential candidates? Is he or she is the key to change the system of our government? And what’s the first law she/he is going to implement?  But the key is in our hand. We voters is the one who’ll decide who is the person deserved the position. Think 10 times who you will support for this 2016 elections.

I hope this 2016 elections people are ready to choose the candidates who deserved to be our president. 

We filipino people also wants this elections has no “Dayaan” Let’s do something to stop this culture of politicians just for them to win. No doubt why still our country is still in developing one. No doubt why this corrupt politicians still in our government just to steal money. Even though we did our best to choose the right one, The Culture in our government still has no change. We need the person this #Election2016  the right person to change the system, because once the system is already changed it’s easy for us the government rather to change everything in our country. The poverty,Corruptions,Crimes,a and every bad habits.  Especially the threats of terrorism.

We need to wake up, We need to open our eyes in reality that our country needs to have a big change. We need to  do this coming election a big action to change our country and government. We have only a Pen and a list of Politician Candidates this Elections to Change something in our country.

“Myca’s success in life that defines her family”

Guarantee success and live with happiness in life

”No problem” It seems to be the theme of today. Why? If there is “no problem”, then why we say that? Why we use the word problem? Can we please start saying words of affirmation like: My pleasure, You are welcome, So glad it worked out, That is wonderful, Oh! That is perfect, Thank you, I love it and That’s great. Well, I found one who comes from right here in STI College Global City and I’d like to share her story with you.

Myca Riola Timbreza is not your average overachiever. In fact, she’s been a simple person. She’s  an epitome of beauty inside and out and she have endearing hands. Brought into existence on March 8, 1998. She was a child prodigy, a prodigy whose talents are recognized at an early age  with her parents, Estela Timbreza and Albert Timbreza. When she was a kid her parents mold this kind of personality and shaping her attitude in real life.

She had to come up with a more efficient student model. Family is the one who provide her things that she needs to have a positive aspect in life. Who mold to become a better person who taught  a good  values that is part of her whole being. This lead to Myca’s success in life that defines her family. “Family is the foundation of all aspects.” says one of her favorite writer, Joel Osteen. She said that the result is focus on the positive and keep doing the right things, no matter what happens. “You have to be determine, passionate, integrity, and most of all you have to believe in yourself.”  That’s why she received a reward and God gave this to her.

President Diosdado Macapagal High school Class Valedictorian on her valedictory speech on March 27, 2014. “I worked hard and a bit harder for some  reasons. First, because my father is the only earning in the family since he is the only person who is working for the family. My mother is left at home to take good care for us. There was a time that we skipped lunch because we don’t  have money  to buy food. In several occasions my mother  was worried for  the payments of my school projects, stage plays, fieldtrips and others. We were  also victims of typhoon  Basyang  which devastated our house.  My father also suffered from heart ailment that drained almost all of our financial resources.  Second, I have some trouble with my friends whom I thought were true to me but slowly faded away when I started to grapple to the top. The group that broke away bullied me. They thrown degrading words at me. They have withdrawn their support (like in several pageant that I have joined).  I heard no applause from them. I was hurt and just cried at my mother’s comforting shoulders.  I exerted to hold on to God and put all my cares unto him. The hurtful words of my detractors were my inspirations to work harder. I have to prove to them that all the criticisms they have thrown to me helped me climb my way to the top. Third, I want to show my parents that I can be a model student and the financial insufficiency could not hinder in the attainment of success. I tried my very best to act properly and perform well as a product of loving, caring and endearing hands.”

Myca’s purpose in life is to become successful and to share her ability for those people who are in need. To her family that she needed all the time by helping  her through perseverance in studying. She wants to see them in a good condition and not suffering poverty. Most important they are in God’s hand or in good terms in life. They’re attitude is in good and bright purposes. To finish her studies  and  to have a better life. In her sense of community with kindness, selflessness and love. That is the most important thing we are asked to do.

“Don’t expect anything in return in helping other people.” She shows the tagline of coke. “Do whatever you can, Share whatever you have.”

If you don’t really know where you are in life, then take the answer to that question  in your  life. Believe in yourself,  you deserve the best. Maybe she convert that into something guarantee and simplistic. All the experiences and all the hardships that come her  way truly epitomizes the meaning of the resiliency of a Filipino, a young Filipino. “SHE IS A LIVING PROOF OF THAT.”
