Daisuke Izuka
Oh HELL YEAH, this one will make me much happier than Sencha to review.
Daisuke Izuka was one of the artists who started on The Binding Blade, but his artwork is more prominently seen on Shadow Dragon and New Mystery of the Emblem.
This man, like Kozaki Yusuke, has covered almost every aspect of versatility in having absolutely BALLER FEH artwork. Details, coloring, character variety, expressions, poses, etc... This man has it ALL.
One of my absolute favorite pieces of his is Hardin:
LOOK AT THE DETAILS ON THE GARMENTS, THE FOLDS, THE CURVES, THE FLOW. LOOK AT HIS STRONG STANCE AND FIERCE FACE. LOOK AT THAT COLOR.
Oh I'm sorry, are beefcakes not your taste? Now in twink flavor:
Even here Sothe showcases he's improved.
Do you prefer your Daisuke Izuka with a side of girls? He has that too:
Now, does this legendary artist have some flaw? Sadly yes, but it can be overlooked.
Every once in a while, I feel Izuka has a hit-or-miss moment with some characters in the facial department.
Like Luke:
Something about his eyes feels... empty. And his face looks a little crooked.
Or Kris in her damage art:
Her nose isn't quite defined here, which makes her face look kind of flat.
Then there's Jorge.
Ignoring the funny pink tint to the whites of his eyes that make him look like he might be smoking that sweet mary jane, that mouth looks almost slapped on. It doesn't quite fit his eyes.
But again, these issues almost always fall into a hit-or-miss. I think Izuka's strength lies in drawing fierce characters, characters with a stern disposition. Anybody kind of sunshine-y or cheery tends to not look right. Izuka's always put out high-quality artwork and there's a reason he was the artist up until Awakening. 10/10 undoubtedly.
