the vaccine works. it's effective at staving off a future that would have been imminent for others. she remembers times when such a death would have felt a release. she looks across the room, eyes and heart softened to the returning man. now, death was the one thing she can no longer let happen.
her luck has always found a way to balance out in equal measure, working its way through her system with nausea and dizziness, a sparking fever and bone-chill shivers. it would pass, it always had. who had ever heard of such a severe reaction to help. her body curls in on itself under a blanket, cursing that she would survive. she would survive.
"how's the mare?" her voice is weaker than it should be. she needs to be strong, and she will be soon enough. but now she is ice, sitting up only to demonstrate that she can. "we still got time?"
