"You're welcome?" It was strange seeing Lydia again. They'd both been through a lot and while he was still struggling with the treatment he was going through with the Silent Brothers it looked like Lydia was doing better. Not that he would say anything. He was still trying to figure out what it was she'd been thanking him for. They had been talking about what happened at the Institute and he'd given her some insight into what all had happened and what was currently going on. Jace figured she knew if she was still in Alicante but if she was questioning him? Maybe she didn't know at all. And that meant he might need to inform her before she found out any other way. "I didn't realise I said something of use. Or that you were in the Silent City."

No one really understood what being the Owl had done to him. He was literally a visitor in his own body. It didn't matter how loud he screamed he couldn't get free. Everything the Owl did he saw and each time he looked down at his hands all he saw was blood. The people that died were because of him, their blood was on his hands and the guilt seemed to crush him even at the best of times. They'd sent him to the Silent City in the hopes that the brothers might be able to help him. Some days he could feel their suggestions and their help doing some sort of good. Other days? Jace wished he'd never came back from the dead. None of it would've happened had Clary not used that damn wish. He didn't blame her, of course, but that was how he felt. "I thought I did but I don't. And I don't think the Silent Brothers can help."

"I should've been there."

Or at least that was what the guilt was telling him. Alec was his brother, his parabatai, and anything that happened to him was something that affected him greatly. It was also something that he felt through their bond but at the moment all he felt was the guilt. He'd had his own problems to deal with and he'd shoved everyone aside; everyone including Alec and he needed him. Jace wasn't even certain if there was anything more he could do. He did appreciate Clary being there with him. Even if she didn't quite understand that bond, he did appreciate her being there. Anything was better than being alone with his thoughts. Though now he was starting to wonder if he'd missed out on something with Clary. Had something else happened that he didn't know about? "I didn't — you're okay, aren't you?"
