½??? Takes place in my AU (The Hora Quan Legacy).
Hive Ancient Deca-Vore hissed into Damas’ mind.
“So you want a skull gem?”
The king shut his eyes, falling to his knees at the strength of broadcasted emotions being sent into him.
Damas received the mental image of the progenitor caste, sensations of his skull scraped open, a gem implanted, his own essence and eco transferred into the skull, a million voices joining his being…”
His eyes snapped open, as he gasped for breath, pulling at his very being, willing himself back together. The King stood up with a grunt.
“That is only a taste of what you’ll experience if you receive a skull gem, Wasteland King. Do you really want this? For the rest of your life and then in death, you will join us in the eco, single-minded lord of the wasteland. Your humanity will be eventually eclipsed by the Many.“
Damas gritted his teeth, ears slatted back, violet eyes glaring back at the Hive Ancient, he was not going to let this creature intimidate him.
Two gigantic metal-pede bodies of Hive Ancient Deca-Vore, longer then ten vehicles, wider then three, circled around Damas. Their legs churned the dust around the human king, as he twisted and turned his body , eyes narrowed as he watched the ancient circle him.
He was doing this for his son. He’s already faced down one Hive Ancient for Jak, what was another?
Deca-Vore’s amusement rippled, subsuming Damas’ mind.
“Prove you can meld like the rest of us. Your single-minded Devotion to your hatchling impresses even us, but it will prove useless if you cannot handle being part of the Many, of Us. ”
Damas’ right ear flicked and he clenched his fists, drawing on the memory of his injured child, that this whole aberration that he’s considering would be worth it.
“We need an exchange, Liberator.” The Hive Ancient flashing emotions of disgust and disappointment, irritated that it took a human to free its kin from Kor.
Damas snapped at the Hive Ancient. “I destroyed Kor, your people took my son and twisted him into something barely human!”
The bodies stilled, ending their circling. Deca-Vore’s eight other bodies, asleep on the ceiling, all thirty-two of their eyes shuttered open, glaring down at the irrate king.
“It is not Our fault you lost your hatchling in Kor’s nest. Be grateful that it was not consumed instead.”
Damas did not answer, seething with anger, glaring back at the Hive Ancient’s ten bodies.
“Now on to this exchange of thought, memory and knowledge. There is a nest, west of here, in a volcano by the coast. One of our kin enjoys your archived memories of paper and ink. Teach the young leader-caste, the memory-keeper how to process the knowledge, to read as you put it. Translator-caste, human-born Screech will show you the way. “
Two of Deca Vore’s bodies skittered into the ceiling. Forty eyes stared down Damas.
The eyes shut as the Hive Ancient fell back into recharge, feeding off the eco that the volcano churned out of the planet’s core.
And Damas was left at the lowest caves of Nest Decimation, alone.
