I only saw Lilo & Stitch for the first time this week. Thought it would a light, uplifting kid movie. Not expecting 1[.]5 hours of what is essentially a sobfest. On the other hand, seeing it for the first time when I was older I didn't miss the things I would have missed when I was a kid. On the other hand THE FISH CONTROLS THE WEATHER AND HER PARENTS DIED IN A CAR CRASH CAUSED BY BAD WEATHER NOOOO
yes omg I thought it was just a dumb movie about an alien.
I don't know that I would've found it quite so sad if I had watched it as a kid. Maybe I would've, I dunno. But like you said I definitely thought the tragedy of the situation was more readily apparent to me as an adult.
