(Bangkok, Thailand | Mike) I've been really fighting against horrible upload speeds here, but managed to get a handful of Sri Lanka pictures up to the site. We were there for 20 days and were very busy for about 16 of those 20, so there are quite a few pictures. Anyway, here are a couple..
We stopped in at two elephant reserves. The first one, Millennium Elephant Orphanage, let you get into a creek and wash the elephants. They don't sweat and like to lay around in the cool water.
Where the first reserve had maybe 8 elephants, the second one, Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, had a lot more, at least 50, I'd guess. Some even pose for pictures.
We hiked up to the cave temple in Dambula. It was the hottest part of the day and I about melted. At the top, there were all sorts of Buddhist statues like these.
Having a driver is good, but on occasion, when they work through a tour company, they stop in a shops that give a demonstration with the hope that you will buy something. This guy showed us how to use natural things to create coloring for wood.
We stopped into the city of Kandy. They have a nightly cultural event where dancers do a routine based on local traditions. At the end of it, two gentleman came out and played with fire and walked across coals.
We looked at various tea fields around the country. In this picture, Kacy may actually be drinking tea while looking at tea.
