slightly NSFW but no smut, I decided to write Yennefer/Fringilla fic set in Aretuza. Thanks for the prompt, I hope you enjoy this despite not knowing the show!!

The first time Fringilla ever stays the night with Yennefer, it is a mistake. Well— every time she stays with Yennefer has been a mistake, but it’s a mistake she can’t stop herself from crawling back to make again and again. She knows she should be smarter than this but the curve of Yennefer’s hands on her body outweighs logic.

But the first time is an actual mistake, an accident brought on by last night’s competitive drinking. Every sip had seemed a challenge in the moment, Yennefer’s violet eyes sharply watching her. Sizing her up. In the bleak yellow morning Fringilla can acknowledge that Yennefer was probably not judging her for her slow pace and was probably just ogling her, especially considering what they got up to after they’d finished the bottle.

Even now that she has Yennefer’s pressure points memorized, Fringilla still hesitates to put a name to what they do. She isn’t girlish enough to call it hooking up, but they aren’t grown enough to make love. It’s more deliberate than fucking. She comes to think of it as relieving tension, and then, swaddling her tenuous, dangerous desires in layers of protective denial, she comes to think of it as practice. After all, that’s what it likely is for Yennefer, who will never want for a partner her whole life. When they lie together, it’s just… practicing.

Fringilla awakens first, cautiously blinking the sleep from her eyes and then panicking as she realizes the source of the warm weight pressed against her side. It takes little effort to untangle their legs or move Yennefer’s wrist gently away. Fringilla has become an expert at leaving— she just usually doesn’t let herself fall asleep first.

The trial comes not as she’s pulling her clothes back on but after she closes the door silently behind herself. Fringilla turns and gasps, startled by the appearance of a young man. Then her surprise shifts into ire as she realizes who this must be. There are very few male visitors bold enough to venture inside Aretuza, and the beard matches Yennefer’s sparse descriptions. “Istredd,” she greets him coldly, nearly regally.

The sorcerer jerks back, astonished, and Fringilla restrains herself from laughing; did he really think Yennefer would tell no one of their dalliances? Then the chilling thought occurs to her of Yennefer confiding in the others about her secret practices with Fringilla, and all mirth drains from her.

“You must be…” Istredd stares, obviously at a loss. Finally he tries, haltingly: “Sabrina…?”

Relief washes over Fringilla, followed quickly by confusion. Then anger. “Yes,” she says, not allowing her emotions to shine through her expression. Why should Istredd know her pain? He clearly doesn’t share the same bitter jealousy as her, as he stands back politely instead of shoving her aside to storm into Yennefer’s room. He must not care about Yennefer spending her nights with anyone else— anyone, which apparently includes Sabrina fucking Glevissig.

For some reason this revelation aches more than the knowledge of Istredd. Fringilla feels betrayed. She had thought she was the only young woman invited into Yennefer’s room for nights of carousing and coupling. What a fool she has been. She tucks her disfigured hand behind her back, nodding to Istredd and sweeping around him as she continues down the hall. “A pleasure to meet you,” she throws over her shoulder, tone cool as ice even as hot tears well up in her eyes.

Despite being the best chapter™, I've barely done more that jot down a few thoughts on chapter three and I only really have two actually coherent sentences but guess what they are...

"No," says Sokka, minutes after walking into Faber for the first time as a sophomore. "Not you."

"Hello," greets Sokka's new defense partner. "Zuko here."

It's hard to earn the respect of your new team when you accidentally-on-purpose nearly concussed their goalie last year. It's even harder when you're still kind of prickly and make no attempt at bonding with your new teammates. Oh, well... I'm sure Sokka and Zuko can put aside their differences and play good hockey together.... Probably.

1. your favorite song at the moment - noooooo it’s almost easier to pick an all-time favorite song than a song-of-the-moment. I’ll go with Yungblud’s “love song” (wait elle omg I’m almost positive I discovered Yungblud from your blog...)

2. a song you associate with a favorite character or ship - many trc songs that i will one day make moodboards for. “Iscariot” by Walk the Moon is Adam Parrish Sacrifice ft. Gansey’s Despair so I’ll give that one a special shoutout because the song itself is more powerful than any single lyric I could pull for a moodboard.

And any song that was ever on an ExR 8tracks playlist in 2012 is always an enjoltaire song in my mind <3

3. a song that could be about you - "yes & no” by XYLØ is strong libra vibes, by which I mean, strong Beth vibes

4. a song you think is overrated - i have not listened to the radio/top 40 in like. literal years. so whatever songs are currently trending are songs that i’m likely gonna be meh about. (also: any artist that tumblr has ever hyped up is almost always a letdown)

5. a good song that reminds you of a specific memory - there are a lot of party songs that take me back to specific moments at specific parties. “Come On Eileen” was a song I pretty much exclusively listened to at parties with one certain friend group, so the only memories I have with it all belong to that time in my life.

6. the last song you listened to - “For You” by Gavin James which is a very boring song that makes for perfect background noise while I’m working on freelance shit 😂

7. a song that makes you laugh - okay very recently nicki minaj rereleased her old mixtape with Itty Bitty Piggy which is the one that’s like “hahahaha i win! you lose!” which always makes me laugh

8. a song you want your mutuals to listen to - i’ve been listening to a lot of matt maeson for my novel. his stuff is super raw. “Feel Good” was the song that sent me into my I Need to Dye My Hair spiral, and “The Mask” is equally moving.

18. Do any of your stories have alternative versions? (plotlines that you abandoned, AUs of your own work, different characterisations?) Tell us about them. i mean, the zuko POV of u&i is definitely an alternate version!! (u&i nation, i promise it’s still in the works. it is. i love it sm. just...breakable heaven brainrot ATM it’s hard to focus on both at the same time. to authors who write multiple fics at once..how do you do it i’m obsessed with you). i will also say the original draft of BH in my brain was like, 30k, and was Just a fake dating au and not me trying to get some use out of my political science degree while writing fanfic but here we are,,,,,,,

19. Is there something you always find yourself repeating in your writing? (favourite verb, something you describe ‘too often’, trope you can’t get enough of?) i do a lot of like, quick asides in parentheses? especially when writing sokka it just feels like how his brain works. i think that in general - writing how i imagine sokka’s thoughts sound - is kind of my thing, like i very much write sokka as having adhd and try to convey that in the way i write his narration.

21. What other medium do you think your story would work well as? (film, webcomic, animated series?) when will we get the movie version of u&i.....
