1986. Mutiny
is the debut (and only) album by band Dammaj.
Hailing from San Francisco, DAMMAJ recorded their classic "Mutiny" LP in Concord, California from late 1983 into early 1984. However, sadly it did not see release until 1986 "Mutiny" was already two years old upon its release. In the mid-80's heavy metal was evolving and splintering into sub-genres at lightning speed so one would assume an album that's already two years old would have little chance of succeeding. However, here's where where Par Records earned their place in metal history.
Great guitar work with the dual flying V's and hard hitting drummer. Mick Gilbert is a guitar wiz and gives the band intensity and delivers very tasty leads. Love the spider guitar! Vocals are decent but this album is all about the guitar. So DON'T be like far too many metal-fans over the years and let this oft-overlooked masterpiece slip through your grasp. Join the small but always growing legion of DAMMAJ fans, critics, metal historians, etc., who hold "Mutiny" up as a true masterpiece of American heavy metal...To the bitter end.

“ I Don’t Know If We’re Going To Make It”: Female Students Of Dammaj Voice Their Reality

Holed up in a makeshift bunker, crowded to the brim, the women and children of Dammaj are thankful for a brief quiet after the storm of war. For weeks they have lived with the sky raining hot metal upon them, the ground shaking beneath them and death all around. One American woman, whom I will call Umm Ahmed, has endured more than one war against Dammaj, but “ this one is the worst”. She had never heard such crashing sounds, with such intensity and such frequency in all the years of attacks on Dammaj by Houthi factions. She sits with her children after asr and plays a game with them to distract them. While there is little food and little water, there are plenty of shells from bullets. She makes up a sort of “bowling” game where they stack up the shells and see how far they can go until they fall.
The question on everyone’s mind, and one that has been voiced by many of Dammaj’s students, is how far the Houthis are truly going to go. The eyewitness accounts are horrific, and many cannot comprehend the mindset of those who will not cease attacking so that the dead can be collected. They wonder about the mentality of those who not only bomb places of prayer, not only prevent aid from entering, but also target hospitals where the facilities are already far from sufficient to care for limbs that are blown off, severed intestines and exposed head wounds.
One female student and British national who preferred to be called Aaliyah, spoke of what her husband had seen. “ One brother … Canadian…was shot in his head. Another brother had his leg blown off and bled to death because he couldn’t get treatment. Someone else had a chunk taken out the top of his head and was scratching it, taking bits of flesh with it and unaware of what he was doing.”
She went onto express how uncertain the future seemed. “I don’t know if we are going to come out of this alive. It seems that this is a government thing. For someone to phone from the government and say give them Barakah… We are being bombed and killed…what does Barakah have to do with it?”
Apparently a lot, as Mount Barakah is a mountain that sitting at a strategic position on one of Dammaj’s borders. It overlooks the surrounding regions, and many times has been included in various stipulations presented by the Houthis as a condition for a ceasefire. But once the Houthis have access to Barakah, they would have access to all of Dammaj, and the students are determined not to let this happen. Apparently so is Sheikh Yahya al-Hujooree, even if it meant that his own life might be taken. It was said by one student that the first row of men who were defending Dammaj against Houthi entry were killed, and that al-Hujooree was ready to go to fight saying, “How can I just sit here and wait while my students are being killed?”
One contact expressed that today in Dammaj, six Houthi spies were caught analyzing various key areas. One was caught with a flashlight observing a protective ditch, and presumably its depth, to explain to his superiors. Although there is little to elaborate on, it is clear that the spies were passing on detailed information to the Houthi faction to give them better understanding of how to attack and where to shoot their missles.
“They don’t have exact measurements”, stated the contact. “They need someone to say…increase another 10 meters etc…Because they don’t have that level of accuracy.”
The main masjid in an area called the maktabah has been a primary target for years with the intent of killing Yahya al-Hujooree , who was preceded by Sheikh Muqbil al-Wadee the founder of the largest center of orthodox teachings in Yemen.In the last war one Houthi leader expressed that in an hour he would take the masjid of Yahya and sit and chew qat in it. He never realized this goal, as he and his son were killed within the hour. Nevertheless it is not farfetched that a center of learning could easily become the biggest area for a qat chew if taken over by the Houthi faction. Although there is a lot of distress, there is also much hope, and this hope seems to stem from the faith that gathered the various nationalities and socio economic backgrounds to this center of learning. There are those who state that hundreds of foreign fighters have been brought in, but there have always been people of various backgrounds who chose to study at the center and now choose to defend it.
Sources who are on the ground say that while many reports speak about “clashes between Houthis and Salafis”, it is apparent according to various eyewitness accounts that this is not a situation in which both sides are equipped in a similar fashion. While in Yemeni culture it is quite normal to own a gun and the gun market is easily accessible to the average citizen, many of the students of Dar Al Hadeeth in Dammaj do not possess such standard weaponry.
At the same time the school’s pupils are being attacked with missiles that are made to take down planes, weapons that are called “hounds”. One family who has lived there for many years explained how the shrapnel would come down from over the mountain and how it was so hot that it could not be touched. This is the same shrapnel that had entered her son-in-law’s hand and leg.
“You’ve never seen anything like it. It enters inside of you burning hot and then closes so that sometimes you don’t even know theres a wound“. Her son-in-law had been praying in the masjid of an area called the Mazrah when a bomb entered. He was making his sunna prayers after the congregational noon prayer, and there were six men in front of him also praying. When the explosion happened, it was explained that the smoke was so thick and black, “You could not see your hand in front of you”. After the smoke cleared , the men who had been praying in front of him were all dead.
The latest news as of today was that after the time in which the children were playing with shells, international aid was allowed to enter after being turned down several times. It has happened before that aid was turned back and many students have said this was because the Houthis deny using tanks and missiles and don’t want aid groups to see what they have done. When speaking to a Zaidi Sadah representative with the NDC, the representative asked if there was more being written on the injustice that was happening in Dammaj. She also extended her prayers and expressed, “We are all saddened by what is happening to the people of Dammaj. The Houthis don’t want people to see , but it is time for people to know the truth.”

Iranian news agencies have - for the past year at least – been spreading false propaganda against Dar al-Hadith Dammaaj, claiming that "Takfiri militants" are arriving in the region to attack al-Houthi Shias. In a typical recent propaganda piece from the Ahlul Bayt News Agency makes dated 30/10/2013 and titled, "Saudi Arabia provokes takfiris to launch war on Houthi Shias in Yemen", it is claimed:
Saudi-backed takfiri extremists are set to attack al-Houthi Shias in the north of Yemen.
Takfiri militants have opened three different fronts in Sa'ada and other northern provinces to raid al-Houthi strongholds there.
One of the fronts is in Hajour District in Hajjah Province, another in Kataf District of Saada Province and the third in Hashid District in Ta'izz province.
Informed sources in Yemen say some 4,000 Wahhabi Salafists have been dispatched to the region to prepare the ground for a war on Houthis in the provinces.
The takfiris also have established checkpoints to avoid transferring of foodand aids to Sa'ada Province. They have also begun arresting al-Houthi supporters in the areas.
On October 23, several people, including two children, were injured after militants belonging to takfiri groups opened fire at Yemenis in Hajjah Province.
Most takfiris have identified themselves with the shadowy al-Qaeda terror network and are widely known to have committed countless atrocities against people opposing their views.
Yemen's Shia Houthi movement draws its name from the tribe of its founding leader Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi.
This is part of Iranian-sponsored propaganda to justify the Houthi aggression against peaceful Sunni, Salafi students who have come for no other reason but to study at Dar al-Hadith Dammaj. This centre of study has been in operation since the 1980s, initiated by Shaykh Muqbil bin Haadee who had a significant role in converting hundreds of thousands (a BBC report mentions millions) of Zaydi Shias into mainstream SunnniMuslims. Attempts to portray students at Dammaj as "Takfiri militants" are blatant lies and part of an organized propaganda campaign to win local and international sympathy for the Houthi aggressors. In the late 1990s certain prominent Houthis converted to Twelver Shi'ism and thereafter received support and funding from the Rafidah of Iran. The Twelver Shites hold the belief that before the arrival of their alleged Mahdee there will be revolutions that signal his coming, and this is confirmed by the Iranian, Ali al-Kawraani, who says that the leader of this revolution will be from the offspring of Zayd bin Alee and that the narrations mention his name as Hasan or Husayn and that he will emerge from Yemen from a town called Kar'ah and which is - as al-Kawraanee states - near to Sa'dah (north Yemen, close to Saudi border). This is an insinuation (by al-Kawrani) to the Hoothee revolution, and support of it through the belief and claim that it is the precursorrevolution for the (world) revolution of their awaited Mahdee. To understand the mind of the Twelver Shi'ite a bit more clearly consider this answer giving by the Kuwaiti Rafidi named Yasir (al-Bagheed) [as documented in our article "Kuwaiti Rafidi Yasir Al-Habib: All Children Are Offspring of Fornication (Born of Prostitutes) Except Those of the Shia" (see here)] in relation to a question about the offspring of the Sunnis:
Glad tidings to you, and welcome to traversing upon the ship of deliverance, that which he who rides upon it will be delivered and he who holds back from it will drown (and be destroyed), and this is as our noble Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam) said. [As for the answer], legislatively, no (they are not), but as for a matter of fact, in reality, and topically, then yes. To use another expression, the opposers in the life of this world, their marriages are judged as valid. But as for the era of the emergence of the Mahdi, and in the Hereafter, their invalidity will become manifest. Hence, their children will consequently be the children of fornication and of slaves. The evidence for that is what has been related by al-Kulayni (upon him be mercy) with his chain from Abu Hamzah from Abu Ja'far al-Baaqir (alayhis salaam). Abu Hamzah said: I said to him, "Some of our associates (the Shia) fabricate and accuse those who oppose them." He said, "Withholding from them is better." Then he said, "By Allaah O Abu Hamzah, indeed all of mankind are the offspring of prostitutes (lewd women) with the exception of our Shia." ... (al-Kaafee 8/285). And the meaning of the hadeeth is that Abu Hamzah al-Thimaalee (Allaah's pleasure be upon him) informed our Imaam al-Baaqir (alayhis salaam) that some of the Shia accuse the opposers of fornication when they fall into severe (heated) argument with them or when they come across them in the fields. So he (alayhis salaam) said, "To withhold (from this) is better," meaning to leave doing that is better, in terms of manners. Then he followed up to clarify the reality of the matter and said, swearing by Allaah, the Sublime that all of mankind, save the Shia, are the offpsring of prostitutes (i.e. lewd, unchaste women).
The Rafidah have fabricated much against the Ahl al-Bayt who are innocent of their filthy lies. The Muslims of Dammaaj are once again under attack by the surrounding Shiite Raafidhah oppressors. They have been under direct fire, even heavy artillery, while some people have been falsely reporting that the Hoothee oppressors have left Dammaaj, thus betraying their Muslim brothers and sisters and aiding the enemies of Islaam to harm and kill the Muslims, while the Muslims are led to believe everything is OK!
Please remember your brothers and sisters in Dammaaj, as many of them are suffering.
May Allaah aid the Muslims of Dammaaj and destroy the enemies of Islaam, the Hoothee Shiite opportunists, who only attack Dammaaj because of their hatred for the Sunnah and its people.
This is the true face of the Shiite dear brothers and sisters. They warm up to the Ikhwaan al-Muslimoon Sect to gain political power or at least immunity from the evil they sow, then they betray and attack Ahlus-Sunnah when they are in a state of weakness.
May Allaah guide the foolish Ikhwaanees who keep trying to make allegiances with the Raafidhah. They are not interested in helping Islaam, they only wish to spread their filthy Raafidhah corruption - the knowledge of the Unseen held by their imaams and their infallibility, their severe hatred and enmity for the general body of Companions, their cursing the Mother of the Believers, 'Aa'ishah, as a religious rite, etc. This is what they believe and want to spread. They are not allies of the Muslims in any way whatsoever.
They continuously make pacts and covenants, and thereafter break them treacherously. But even more treacherous are the Ikhwaanees who know this, and they still busy the Muslims with "Sunni-Shiite cooperation and harmony", which only leads to honest Muslims being harmed and killed, as we are seeing in Dammaaj at this moment.
And may Allaah give the Muslims of Dammaaj success in repelling the filth of the Hoothees.
May Allaah grant them firmness and strength in their hour of weakness.
May Allaah bless them to recover from these treacherous attacks and become what the Ummah needs them to be: true upstanding Salafees in word and deed, in secret and open, spreading goodness and love of the Sunnah and its people, rejecting and censuring falsehood and its people, far from partisanship and bigotry, as their shaykh, the Imaam, Muqbil ibn Haadee al-Waadi'ee, left as a legacy for them.
Allaah reminds us all:
وَأَطِيعُوا اللهَ وَرَسُولَهُ وَلَا تَنَازَعُوا فَتَفْشَلُوا وَتَذْهَبَ رِيحُكُمْ وَاصْبِرُوا إِنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَ الصَّابِرِينَ
"And obey Allaah and His Messenger, but do not differ and split up, lest you become weak and lose your might! And be steadfast, verily Allaah is with those who are steadfast!"[Meaning of Quran 8:46]
