Jager Hunts the A-Standard

For the elites looking to kick-start their season leading up to the Olympic Games, the Mt. SAC Invitational summoned the right mix for fast marks. Specifically, the Steeplechase doesn’t have the notoriety of the metric mile, nor does it require the same reverence as the 10,000 meters. However only the smoothest athletes with the swiftest leg speed can master the race spread over 28 barriers, and Jerry Schumacher’s apprentice, Evan Jager, was just the young buck to challenge the likes of Chris Winter of Speed River or Dan Huling of Reebok, at their game.

Why I like this race:

This was Jager’s debut in an event that he seemed practically built to run. With the 1500 and 5,000 meter fields in America stacked with talent like lines at a DMV, it was necessary to find a niche he could dominate instead of waiting for his crack at a championship. He executed his strategy perfectly, building confidence until he knew he could blaze for the win.
