Jon Hopkins - Cold Out There (2016 Vinyl Remaster)
Directed by: Dan Tombs
Jon Hopkins' debut album, Opalescent, was reissued last week in celebration of the 15th anniversary of its release, and now there is a new video to accompany album track 'Cold Out There'. The song, an ambient ode of entrancing albeit fleeting beauty, is accompanied by video footage shot by a drone hovering several hundred meters over the Norfolk coast. The landscape's silvery blue surface and snakelike riverbeds recall fantastic imaginary worlds, at once āfamiliar and uncertainā, as director Dan Tombs writes. Set on top of the footage, like a floating hologram, are undefinable shapes constantly reforming, offering āa glimpse of imaginary celestial bodies moving through time and space.ā
Epic newness from Gold Panda.
Hi Vintage Chique Vinyl Freak, your response was very helpful! Cheers. Too bad Jon won't be touring this year but looking forward to a new album for sure. I saw Dan Tombs is touring with Gold Panda now? I'll see if I can catch that instead. Thanks again!
Youāre very welcome, Iām always happy to help and Iām glad my response to your question was informative.Ā
I think itāsĀ a good thingĀ Jonās taking all the time he needs.Ā Itās testing our patience but Iām confident that weāll be rewarded with amazing new music.
Yes, from what Iāve gatheredĀ Dan is indeedĀ touring with Gold Panda at the moment. Iāve no idea which dates of the tour heāll be on for but as I said heās likely to announce it on Twitter so keep your eyes peeled if youāre interested.
Let me know if you make it to a show, would love to hear your thoughts on it!

Hey Vintage Chique Vinyl Freak, I'm a huge fan of Jon Hopkins. His music and shows are fantastic! Do you know if he'll tour this year and if Dan Tombs still works on his show?
Hello there, it always makes me smile when people who appreciate Jonās work and that of the people he collaborates with reach out to me so thanks for getting in touch.Ā
From Jonās tweets Iāve gathered that he definitely wonāt be going on tour this year, which is a shame but we shouldnāt be too sad because heās using the time to work on his next album instead. He has been announcing the odd show in the US every now and then though so he hasnāt gone into hiding completely.
At the moment heās got a Resident Advisor showcase with KiNK coming up on May 20th and heāll be playing Eaux Claires Festival in August.Ā
As for Dan Tombs, seeing as Jonās not actually touring this year and wonāt be developing a new show until heās got new material outĀ I donāt think DanāsĀ currently working for him, but I have no doubt theyāll collaborate again in the future.Ā
In the mean time Iām sureĀ Danās cooking up amazing things for other great artists thatĀ heāll probably be going on tour with as well, because thatās part of what he does.Ā So if you want to see him work his visual magic this year I suggest you keep an eye on his Twitter where heāll undoubtedly announce the tours heāll be joining.
I hope this helps?

Visual Artists
The music of many of my favourite electronic music artists is supported by the amazing work of visual artists when they perform. I find that their names are often left unmentioned when people talk about shows theyāve attended, or that their work isĀ often credited to the artist theyāve created art for. Iād like to shine a spotlight on some of my favourite visual artists this week to celebrate their artistry, starting off with the ridiculously talented Dan Tombs. Because how could I not?
Iāve been working with a talented audiovisual artist called Dan Tombs. He has been combining clips of his own making with some of the microscopic time-lapse photography by Linden Gledhill (from my recent collaboration with The Creators Project). The results are looking amazing. I mostly let him get on with it but will occasionally chip in to make points about certain colours not going with certain tracks ā I have quite precise and strange ideas about colours as I see my tracks in quite specific ways.

Jon Hopkins opening his set at FYF Festival last night. Stunning and ridiculously on point visuals are the work of Mr. Dan Tombs.
