Rodin - Danaid, 1889
Amymone fights off a satyr
Pseudo-Apollodorus, The Library:
"Poseidon had dried up even the springs [of Argos]. So Danaus sent his daughters out to find water. One of them, Amymone, while searching threw a spear at a deer and hit a sleeping Satyr, who woke, jumped up, and was ready to have sex with her. Then Poseidon appeared and the Satyros ran off; so Poseidon himself made love to her, after which he told her about the springs of Lerna."
I found this vase painting of Amymone fighting off multiple satyrs by taking the thyrsus of one of them and beating him with it. I like to think that after losing her spear Amymone still stood her ground and took the thrysus of the satyr trying to assault her before Poseidon swooped in and scared him off. It just gives her so much personality y’know? And I bet her fiery spirit is part of what made Poseidon like her so much.

I think Danaid is really underrated. She is one of my favorites in arc 3. For those who don't remember, Danaid is an elderly silkwing from Wasp's flamesilk factory.
Firstly, she is the only dragon in the factory who's in her mind. Everyone else lost their sanity while living in the factory; they are either exhausted or easily annoyed, and Admiral has false hopes and tries to make everyone believe that keeping dragons as literal slaves and a source of fuel is normal and fine. While Danaid is the only dragon who is actually nice to Blue and Luna. She explains them everything about the factory. Warns them. Helps them. She is the one who helped the siblings escape; of course, Sundew and Cricket came first, but Danaid helped to distract the crowd when Blue and Luna were running away. And then in the end Danaid said something like "hope to see ya later"... And we never saw her again.
I really hoped to see flamesilks being set free in the epilogue of The Flames of Hope. I wanted to see them adapting to the new life, and see Danaid finally reunite with Blue and Luna, and act like a bittersweet granny to them; as much as I wanted to see her interact with Scarab and Sequoia, two other grannies I really adore. There's also a strange thought living in my head, implying Danaid is actually queen Monarch's daughter, since Monarch was the first flamesilk to be imprisoned in the factory, and they resemble each other; as well as Danaid being the genus of butterflies where Monarch butterflies come from.
And I only see people remembering her by one phrase: "go suck a lime"... It makes me so sad. I feel like Tui just forgot about Danaid and other flamesilks. Are there any other Danaid enjoyers out here? :(
