Dance collaboration log 4
On the 7th of March 2023, I had another meeting with the lovely dance choreographers and performers.
Today another amazing student joined the choreography as the evil shadow demon and just shined! Amy, Matilda, Oné and Sophie succeed in creating a piece of art that matches so perfectly the envisioned contemporary dance scene I had, and I might even say that they went above and beyond! Every single time I am just left speechless. We did something fun today and dressed up in traditional Romanian clothing. Seeing the dance with the costumes made the piece feel so much stronger and more cohesive. I filmed the dance from several angles and did some follow-through and close-up shots. Now I have to edit everything together and start animating. We agreed on meeting from time to time to share my progress with them as they also have to prepare for their own project and need as much animation as possible. I added each and every take on the google drive folder because it is easier to organise them there.
As a surprise, Alexandra, the composer, had time to meet with us and it was so heartwarming and fulfilling to have the team together! A truly amazing multi-collaboration project.

Dance collaboration log 2
On the 7th of February, I had another meeting with the three beautiful people who accepted a collaboration with me. We meet at the Student Union's open studio and brainstormed ideas. I showed them the dance playlist I prepared with some dance choreography I thought would fit my film. We analysed which ones matched my film the best and added in the missing elements. I also showed them the music reference playlist I made for my composer to give them an idea of the mood the film's going to have. Furthermore, I explained the film's plot, the character's personalities, motifs, reasoning and thoughts. I wanted to give them as much information as possible in order to have a strong understanding of the myth, and my approach to it. https://docs.google.com/document/d/10vzbi6D9bZGvZxtZTKS6Fmd8B2HdAhV0TnpE40DNvZA/edit
What surprised me the most was their implication. They had so many amazing ideas. They seemed genuinely interested in what the film is about and immersed themselves in it. They suggested a third character, an evil shadow that influences the protagonists' relationship, and they had fantastic movement ideas. Overall, the meeting was beyond great. I am excited to see what they will create!
Dance collaboration log 3
On the 23rd of February, I had a third meeting with the dancers. They completed the courtesy scene and the slow waltz sequence. They let me film their choreography from different angles and were so kind to the thought of redoing it again and again. I succeeded in filming two different angles and a follow-through video. I can't begin to explain how nice, kind and understanding they are. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to meet and work with them. I also suggested the idea of doing the final video wearing costumes, and they agreed and seemed excited. I prepared three traditional Romanian blouses, a long flowy skirt and additional accessories. We agreed to meet next Thursday, the 2nd of March, to film the final version of the choreography. Alexandra, the composer, is working on a rough waltz, and I hope it will be finished by next week so that the dancers can match their movements to the sound's rhythm. I was once again surprised by their implication in the project and their passion. They suggested new movements, and scenarios and their performance was simply beautiful.
For any future student interested in doing a collaboration with the dance department I highly recommend it. It is a unique rewording experience.
Dance collaboration log 1
On the 24th of January, I first met with the dance students. I presented my animatic, a few general details about the film and more precise information about what I envisioned for the dance sequence. I told them the feelings and impressions I wanted the dance to give and what I hoped to achieve with our collaboration. I aimed for a collaborative choreography that I could film and use as a base for the motion of my characters, but I was happy with just talking and exchanging ideas. I was fortunate because four dance students decided to help me with my project with information and choreography planning and even agreed to dance. They are incredibly sweet and open. We scheduled two weekly meetings to finish the project as soon as possible on Tuesdays and Thursdays afternoons.
