*inhales deeply*
I've been waiting for this question...
Kelbrey... I hope you know that I got an entire bunch of lore centered around Luigi being a dancer... and I'm about to spill it all right here, right now. You've been warned/j/lh
As for tagging... @peaches2217, @vulpixfairy1985, @bberetd, @megamagimugi, @loud-kid2 @silenzahra (whenever you're ready, love ❤)
@luigixfanxayjay, and anyone else interested in Luigi ramblings and all that fancy shmancy stuff (plus a side of Luaisy or Luisley).
(TW: mentions of bullying, dysphoria, older women cattiness, implied bad relationships)
Childhood
Starting off relatively simple, Luigi was always fascinated by dancing and just art in general. Even as a young kid, he would LOVE watching shows that had dancing and music, and he'd sometimes get up and start dancing with the characters to his heart's content. His family thought this was the cutest thing, and they actively encouraged it! His mom often bought him cute dresses to dance in, and she'd even find songs he could dance to (she didn't approve of Uncle Tony constantly playing Dirty Dancing for him 😅). And together, they'd watch a bunch of old shows, just to see what things he liked. Turns out, he liked things that were vintage ANYTHING (to him, 20's-80's). This one was especially his favorite (... much to his mother's horror):
The whole time, Luigi LOVED it. To him, it was like playing princesses, and he got the lead role (he had a huge princess phase growing up, lol)! Sometimes, he'd drag Mario into his performances, something the older brother enjoyed... but they usually ended up laughing and stumbling over each other more than, y'know... dancing.
His performances also branched out beyond his own home, too. His school would often hold plays, most of which would involve dancing and singing. Luigi never missed a chance to get up on stage and do what he did best. He pretty much stole the spotlight, even when he wasn't the main act, just from his energy and enthusiasm alone! And when his brother joined in... let's just say they deserved that award for "Best Dancer" from their teacher!
When Weegee was a little bit older (around 12), he tried doing auditions for dancing as a sport. He thought that since he could do it for fun, this would be a great opportunity... right?
It was a disaster.
The whole class was one big episode of Dance Moms. The other girls in his class were catty and mean towards him for sticking around his older brother, and often chided him for his "childish" dresses. Luigi even overheard some of the other moms making fun of him in private about his weight and his face (don't worry, Mia gave them hell for this). It also didn't help that he had started going through puberty around this time... and that dysphoria was starting to hit him hard. His self-esteem dropped to an all-time low, and he finally quit, stating that he had lost interest to his mom.
It wasn't until around high school (age 15) that he finally felt confident enough to put on his dancing shoes again, now with a healthy outlet for his dysphoria and the support of his family. This time, he took great precaution in it because he was determined to impress a crush he had (spoiler... he did! ❤)... and because he missed it. He studied any sort of fancy moves he could: ballroom dancing, salsa, tango, ballet, and jazz. He would sometimes spend hours perfecting his moves, his and Mario's record player blaring at all hours of the morning. But in the end, it was all worth it as he was the best dancer at his school's prom (and Destiny quite liked it, too!)
After he and Mario finished high school, he didn't really have much of a need for dancing too much. He still did it occasionally whenever he did housework, but that was about it. He had another partner who he danced with when he was around 19, and they always had a good time (good memories... terrible person, though 😬).
Once his last relationship ended on... not great terms, he decided that his dancing would be kept to himself. And only himself.
Until...
Present Day
For a long time after he and Mario moved to the Mushroom Kingdom, Luigi gave up dancing a second time, relegating it only to when he was alone... usually in the bathroom lip-synching to his radio with a toothpaste beard wearing just his underwear. The thought of actually dancing in public or where anyone could see him was just UNTHINKABLE at this point.
And then... she came along.
When he first met Daisy, she and him were mostly just awkward besties. Most of the time, they just read books together and talked about random things that... usually involved books. At the time, both of them were extremely shy, especially both coming out of bad situations (Luigi's last relationship, and Daisy's home life). It took a long time for them to open up... and they eventually did one night at one of the Mushroom Kingdom Balls.
Luigi had gotten overwhelmed by the crowds and had taken it upon himself to find some privacy... and Daisy was the only one to follow along (Mario was busy with Peach at the time). She made him feel better and just stayed with him for as long as he needed... and that actually helped him quite a bit. After some time, they heard a slow song start to play from the party... and they decided to try dancing. At first, Daisy was gonna show him the ropes... but then he took her by the hand and said, "A-A-Allow me... m-m'lady... 😏🌹"
And... let's just say... that was the night they both fell in love with each other. It took a while to admit it... but that was the moment.
After that night, and soon after they started dating, they still continued on. The two would sometimes dress up for the occasion, just to set the mood: one wearing a dress and the other wearing a suit, both wearing suits, or both wearing dresses. Luigi was already a great dancer, but Daisy further enhanced this with her own tastes... particularly a certain genre:
Needless to say, Luigi is a MASTER at the tango (hence why he and Daisy were crowned the Tango Tanglers during the Mushroom Kingdom's Summer Solstice Ball!). It took a little time for both of them to work up the courage to dance around others... but they eventually did it! To them, dancing was what helped them become the people they are now:
Luigi: strong, brave, and probably the best boyfriend on the face of the planet (Daisy's words)
Daisy: um... Daisy!
Later on, he met Peasley (his second partner), who cranked this up to 100. Peasley was always quite the dancer himself (both in combat and personally), and he was rather skilled at ballet. This was something Luigi immediately noticed when Peasley joined him and Mario in battle during their adventures in the Beanbean Kingdom... and let's just say, bro went through the five stages of bi panic real frickin quick 💀
Sometimes, when they had a moment alone, Peasley would guide him through the motions ("To help you become a better fighter, of course!" - Peasley). Luigi often pretended he was terrible at dancing just to be alone with Peasley, but he saw through that, lol. (also, Luigi had been writing to Daisy this whole time, so she definitely knew; she was actually the one who told him to do this 💀)
Fast forward to present day, they still regularly do this... and they love it every single time.
Nowadays, Luigi mainly saves his moves for the both of them... and their kiddos! He loves nothing more than to put on some music and dance with all of them in one arm. Sometimes, he's swinging his girls Vivi and Lily around while they're laughing up a storm, or he's being carried around by Peasley and Daisy... but either way, they're all happy to be by each other's sides in these moments. ❤
So... in short... Luigi's actually a pretty good dancer! ☺❤
I think it’ll depend on the type of dancing— you know what? Scratch that. Amy. Wait no. Shadow well—
Again it depends on the type of dance
cause while they’re both good dancers and can do much better than others, I feel like Shadow would shine more in dances like ice skating, tango, and classic dances that were popular during the 50s (or whenever he was on the ARC)
Amy would shine more in ballet and probably more modern dances like TikTok dances
ofc this all depends on headcanons and how you perceive the characters. Some ppl would say that Shadow’s horrible at tango, some ppl would say that Amy can’t dance at all! This is just my opinions on who would be considered the better dancer, with a certain kind of dance, because I think that both are amazing at dancing :)
UwU dance headcanons! Can you do the dance headcanons you did for Honey and the twins but for the other hosts?
Tamaki:
He's the first one to ask to dance. He's very traditional. And if they ask him first, he'd sulk "----- I'm supposed to ask first."
And he asks like it's the first time. Everytime.
No embarrassment, just very polite and gentlemenly. He's always effortlessly impressive. Offering his hand like he's offering food.
"May I have this dance?"
Always adding special nicknames. Princess/ m'lady/ lovely
His Host Habits never leave him
Tamaki's elegant. He refused to dance anything but.
He thinks unchoreographed dancing is preposterous. So of course the Waltz's is his Go-to. The tango is as adventurous as he'd get.
Always has to lead. He'd complain otherwise.
But he's gentle. If his S/O messes up, or steps on his toes, he'll just ignore it. He'd think it's cute.
He likes dancing in the center of the floor. 1): to be the center of attention, and 2): It's his way of showing them off.
He's always so much more closer than necessary. To whisper those random sweet nothings into their ear. Unbeknownst to everyone else.
Likes intimate, heavy eye-contact.
Kyoya:
He Doesn't like to dance. But he doesn't dislike it either.
He'd probably frustrate his S/O a lot, cause he waits until the very last minute to ask.
He likes sharing the last dance. It's the last song. The one everyone passes over cause they're too tired.
But most importantly, he likes building up that need in his S/O. So that they desperately want to be next him. And really enjoy their one dance and their time with him
He probably ignored them the entire party just for this moment.
And when he asks, he acts like he's doing them a favor. (Even though he secretly really wants to).
So he doesn't ask per se, he kind of just takes their hand, and leads them away.
He prefers somewhere more private. Sometimes takes them completely out of the room, far away from everyone, but close enough where they could still hear the music.
Though while he knows how to dance, and is quite good at it, he doesn't stick to anything traditional. If he isn't around anyone of important status that he'd have to impress, he using facing as just an excuse to be close to his S/O and just casually sways back and forth. In time with the music but nothing notable.
And he gets kind of handsy. Putting his hands lower than they should be, caressing his hands through their hair and breathing against their neck.
But if in front of a crowd, his favorite is the Bolero.
People always compliment how graceful on foot he is.
Haruhi:
Has two left feet. She's hates dancing and never gets the hang of it.
She's only ever learned how to dance the male part of the Waltz, and that serves as troubling when she gets older.
And even that's a pain. She's always stepping on her S/O's toes or tripping over their feet, or tripping them. It's no use talking her through it, it all goes through ear and comes out the other.
The only thing she sort of gets the hang of is the typical slow dance kids dance at prom because it doesn't necessary take any skill.
Her grip is always a little too tight because she's nervous and doesn't want to fall over.
And always gets tired halfway through.
She especially likes it if her partner is taller than her so she can rest her face against their chest.
Almost always dances half asleep.
Mori:
He likes dancing. But prefers just to watch, rather than actually dance himself.
He's so fascinated by it. All the fancy clothes. Especially watching dancing competitions on television.
But he's like Mitsukuni. He's never actually had to dance before joining the Host Club, so the only thing he's relatively good at is the Club's signature waltz. And only because he had to learn it for parties.
Besides that he's way too awkward.
He always apologizes for stepping out of tune and moving too fast.
He never asks his partner to dance first because of that. They'd have to ask him first and of course he'd happily oblige.
Unless his S/O clearly wants to but doesn't ask him, then he'll eventually cave and ask.
And it's simple. And sweet.
"Would you like to dance?"
Or sometimes just gentle and less obvious. Asking them if they like the particular song that's playing, and then offers them his hand.
He prefers dancing that doesn't take much movement on the male part.
His dancing is very unchroegraphed but He likes twirling his them around, and bringing them close. And honestly anything that would be fun for them, but not necessarily need a lot of movement on his part.
Headcanons for Hikaru & Kaoru & Hani dancing with their s/o?? Would they like to dance or would they find it fun or not or how would they dance with them or something like that!! Glad you’re back hun!!💕
Hikaru:
It's not the first thing that goes through his mind at a party. He's more interested in standing off to the side, cradling a glass of punch/ (If he's older: A glass of champagne) and gossiping with Kaoru or his friends about everyone else at the party.
He doesn't mean any harm by it, he just likes making fun of people
And parties are full of fancy hair and clothes and his opinions run wild.
He never likes to start off with something slow. He prefers to save those for later on.
But once the first catchy song starts playing, he's the first to ask his S/O to dance.
But he doesn't so much as ask, per se. It's more like a quick lopsided grin and he's already tugging them over to a clear spot in the ballroom before anyone can take a second breath.
He's more of a Hustle kind of guy. Because it's flamboyant and fun and looks utterly ridiculous and everyone has fun just watching.
But he's proficient. He knows the latest dance trends and all the elegant classics.
When that certain slow song finally starts and he's exhausted but full of that fuzzy feeling all that adrenaline left behind, he likes dancing something where he can be especially handsy. Like the Ballroom waltz.
Even though he gets easily distracted from it. And after a few perfect steps, he'll start to just away them back and fourth.
He wants to be pressed against his S/O as close as possible. He wants to be able to lay his head on top of their's and leave hidden kisses against their face and not have anybody know.
Kaoru:
Kaoru's antsy the second he arrives at a party.
He'll want to dance with his S/O immediately, but he's shy. The whole "Will you dance/do you want to dance with me." It kind of nerve-racking to him.
Unless his S/O asks first. Then oh boy. This guy is biting his lips so hard so he's not smiling like a fool.
But he's less obvious on the outside. His eyes are soft. He'll gently slip into their hand and gently pull them somewhere a little more secluded. He doesn't like an audience.
He's more skilled than his brother. He's not trying tug them along and lead, or holds them too tight or puts his hands where they're not supposed to be.
His hands are like feathers. They're gentle, but always sneakingly caressing their sides and shoulders.
He's a Foxtrot guy. It's kind of his go-to if anything. No matter what song is playing. And his S/O probably has to remind him to switch it up.
It's faster paced but not so tiring.
+ He's kind of a hopeless romantic. If he's dancing with his S/O at all, he prefers to slow dance.
He really likes twirling them around, and bringing their back against his chest and constant, intimate eye contact.
Hani:
He loves dancing. It's so fun to him. But Hani never knew how to dance until he joined the Host Club.
Being apart of a martial arts oriented family, dancing and elaborate paries wasn't all that necessary.
But he's always the first to ask his S/O wants to dance.
Expect it's more like: "Hey! ----- Let's go dance!"
And He's so uncoordinated.
Of course he knows how to dance, but only the waltz because Tamaki said it was mandatory.
And he only chooses that when he's trying to impress someone or is really trying to woo his S/O.
He knows where to put his hands but that's about it. His feet are just gliding all over the place.
He's tugging them along, and spinning around like Ring around the Rosie.
So he's not really a fan of slow dancing.
He likes the music really loud and uppity.
He kind of hates that he's not quite tall enough to twirl them around and hold them close but he has fun anyway.
To him, dancing is supposed to be fun, and exhausting. And you're supposed to be panting and laughing when you're through or you haven't done it enough yet.
Karasuno
1st Years Folk Dancing
- Hinata and Kageyama keep colliding with each other and trying to stomp on each other's feet
- Tsukki and Yamaguchi are surprisingly good at it?
- When Yamaguchi parnters with Yachi he blushes like mad because uwah it's a girl
-Tsukki having trouble going under that arm bridge thing because Hinata and Yachi are too short
2nd Years Krumping (or Break Dancing, but then Kuroo feels more break dancy tbh)
- Noyassan and Tanaka get really into it
- But Ennoshita does it takes the cake
3rd Years Waltz/Ballroom Dancing
- Daichi and Suga pretty good dancing as a pair
- When Kiyoko partners with them she dances the male part and the boys get super confused (but then she's really good at leading so I guess it's okay?)
- Asahi is clumsy and every time he steps on someone's foot he apologises profusely
Others:
-Kuroo and Bokuto busts out their awesome break dancing moves
-Oikawa would twerk, but before he even moves a muscle Iwa-chan would beat him up for attempting to disturb public peace
-Ushiwaka does the Robot dance (If you look careful at his feet, he's actually writing 'You should have come to Shiratorizawa')
One of the major dance styles seen in Babel. Persian dance is not uncommon, and the interpretive styling of many of the pieces allows not only something fun and entertaining to catch attention while merchant caravans are travelling, but also allows other Outlanders or even those from the 99 Caverns to join in and learn, spreading the culture further.
Since not many outsiders come into Babel, this and several Indian styles help people become interested and take an interest in the cavern's culture. What is being shown or taught depends on who is in charge of the entertainment for that trip and there is no discrimination on who wants to join and learn, save by how they treat those in charge of the event or how their brethren in the caravan are treated.
