Dancing Eyes (Namco - Arcade - 1996)
literally so cute
CG renders for Dancing Eyes, Namco's 3D Qix-like puzzle game released in 1996.
Ever heard of Dancing Eyes? I came across this bizarre, Japan-exclusive, 90s arcade game in an Akihabara arcade. As a small monkey, you crawl over a 3D object and try to complete rectangles around it, kind of like Qix. But instead of filling in that square, you’re removing clothing.
Or at least that’s how they trick you into playing! It started with a couple steamy levels where I got to pick which cute girl I like, before moving on to things such as destroying a milk bottle to reveal a cow. And it still gave me a reward of zooming in on the cow to admire it after I won. I imagine the levels only get weirder. Good thing I was just playing because I like Namco, yeah...
So despite never having played before, I obliterated the previous high score. Not many people seem to play it, but nevertheless, my initials rank supreme. Not quite the legacy I intended to leave on a high score list, but... I’m Akihabara’s number 1 Dancing Eyes player, apparently. What an honor.
