Rule of thirds.
For us, the rule of thirds has taken on a different meaning these days. It just so happens that all of our big days are falling on the third day of the month. JJ left for his road trip out west today, Aug. 3rd. I leave for California on Sept. 3rd. And we fly to India on Nov. 3rd.
So, today’s the day! One of the days at least. The van is packed, the final list has been checked and dancing Buddha is in his place. JJ and his folks are en route to Sante Fe, New Mexico, via historic Route 66. Here they’ll spend a long weekend (joined by his sister Lindsay), before JJ and John head to California + start the John Muir Trail on August 12th - send good vibes!!
Here’s a photo story of their trip so far:
Everything JJ will have with him on the JMT, not including food. Full packing list coming later!
JJ + John’s gear for JMT.
Fully packed van. Our “home” in Sept. + Oct.
Nothing left to be done.
Meet Dancing Buddha! Expect to see much more of him throughout our trip.
Seriously, how cute is he? #goodvibes
A road trip on Route 66 wouldn’t be complete without a pitstop at the country’s oldest truck stop.
Hi, mom and dad!
New game: where in the world is Dancing Buddha? Update: Dancing Buddha needed to chill from the dancing for a bit, so he’s been given a “couch” for meditation.
Somewhere in Texas.
Made it to Sante Fe! First hike.
JJ + Lindsay.
Somewhere along the Arizona / New Mexico border.
Buddha likes the view.
Hitchhiking (successfully!) the day before the JMT starts.
Yosemite National Park: the start of the JMT. Only 222 miles left to go.
Happy trails!
